49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

I'm just trying to look at it the way i believe this new regime really looks at it... a stepping stone, a building block meant to get things off on the right track, who does in no way preclude the search for THE guy, Dorsey/Reid whatever you think of them arent completely nuts, just cant be... too much experience, they'll always be looking to upgrade, i'm 100% sold on that idea.

Smith is a step in the right direction, nothing less and nothing more... who knows what the future holds, but i like the immediate prospects for improvement right now.

Many fans, writers, and NFL analysts do not believe Alex Smith is a top 10 quarterback in the NFL. This is a highly debatable topic that has increased with the recent success of Colin Kaepernick for the 49ers this season.

Football front offices and an increasing number of fans want answers to questions such as: How much is each player worth (on a balanced scale throughout the league)? How much is each player worth (on a balanced scale throughout the league)? Does my quarterback contain the critical elements required to win a Super Bowl? The answers to these types of questions hold obvious strategic advantages, but to this point few known analytical techniques provide them.

To answer those questions and many others, I created the Elitics Model. The Elitics Model integrates database science to reveal players’ and teams’ unique rankings; in turn, these rankings expose important patterns and anomalies in performance that are considerably less evident using conventional evaluative approaches. The results facilitate efficient answers to important questions like the ones we asked above.

Many of the arguments against Smith may be warranted, but when analyzing his statistics over the past two seasons, he has ranked in the top 10 among the league, with his Elitic Score rating well above the 1.75 baseline.

Among all veterans (excluding rookies) ranked in the top 10 over the past two seasons, Alex Smith is also the lowest valued quarterback, next to Aaron Rodgers. One of the main reasons to explain Smith’s low value may be because he is not paid at the same level as a Tom Brady or Drew Brees, and we are not suggesting he should be.

However, with the high demand for a consistent quarterback in the NFL, Alex Smith has proven to be one of the most under-valued quarterbacks in the league over the past two seasons.

Wide receiver Michael Crabtree finally experienced the breakout season last year the San Francisco 49ers had been waiting for after taking him in the first round of the 2009 NFL draft.

Crabtree posted his first 1,000 yard season catching 85 passes for 1,105 yards and nine touchdowns for the 49ers. However, it was the second half of the year, with Colin Kaepernick serving as the quarterback, when Crabtree became a consistent threat for the 49ers. In 10 starts including the postseason with Kaepernick under center, Crabtree caught 61 passes for 880 yards and eight touchdowns.

Crabtree said Tuesday on the NFL Network he felt a better connection with Kaepernick than former 49ers starter Alex Smith.

“I think he trusted me more. Playing wide receiver, you need a quarterback who trusts you. I feel like he trusted me,” Crabtree said, via Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com.

Crabtree didn’t want to throw Smith under the bus as he avoided saying he didn’t have the same trust factor with him as he does with Kaepernick.

“I don’t want a controversy,” Crabtree said.

But the message was pretty clear anyway. With Smith now in Kansas City, Crabtree will have a full offseason to continue to develop that trust factor with Kaepernick as the 49ers try to defend their NFC Championship crown next season.

for the sake of all of you Smith ballwashers I hope we get the Alex Smith of the last 2 years, because if we get the Alex Smith "i cant play a full season because i get hurt all the time" guy or the Alex Smith "cant be a good QB on a team that lacks talent and doesnt have an elite top 2 defense" then we are trouble.
