**Official Royals vs. Phillies 4/7 Gamethread** AKA Vengeance Game

Alrighty, we took our first heartbreaker last night.

The Phillies walked their way to a walk-off. Time to brush it off, forget about it, win this God-forsaken series, and go home with a .500 road trip.

Time for Big Game James to earn that name and outduel Hamels.

Let's. Do. This.

We seem to take forever to score and aren't really getting much going until at least the third or fourth inning. Is that some kind of issue with scouting? Or is it simply a coincidence because of poor weather in Chicago and unfamiliar pitchers we are facing against Philly?

OK, I'm here, if we even take a sniff at losing this lead, I'm outta here in an effort to help get a win!

Herrera was not. Crow was not. Collins pitched two innings the day before and was not available. At that point, you're looking at one of three guys, all of whom had pitched the day before:

Luke Hochevar (yeah, let's bring him in with the bases juiced and nobody out)

JC Gutierrez (nope)

Bruce Chen (again, bases juiced, nobody out, not the situation to use him)

You saying he hurt Holland's ego is complete bullshit. Anybody who pitched at a high/competitive level will tell you the pitcher WANTS the trust from his skipper in that spot.

I certainly did (pitched at the high school/legion level). Every guy I ever covered in a high school, college or major level level certainly did.

If Kelvin Herrera had been rested and sitting in the bullpen, sure, you have an option to replaced Holland. As it was, he was KC's best chance of getting out of that inning, even with the struggles he'd already displayed.
Well WANTiNG the trust from your 'skip' and BELIEVING IN YOURSELF to GET that trust when you have already walked 2 only to walk a 3rd are 2 different realities here my friend. Pull him, he doesn't have it today. Anyone is better than a pitcher that gets the 'BB disease'. He may have been the best option in the beginning but after the 1st walk I'm warming someone up just in case because I have a F'N lead on the road and will not lose it to the 'BB disease' come hell or high water. The deeper question here is how do you allow yourself as manager to get your pitching staff into this situation where there are limited options only 5 games into the season?

Looks like the new hitting coach has really gotten Frenchy to cut down on his swing with 2 strikes

How bout just not throwing a fastball dead center when a pinch hitter is sitting dead red.
