According to both the radio and tv broadcast, this particular implementation of the rule involving suspending the game is new... I can think of no instance where a team lost a game in this manner, got a link to one?

I don't know about a team losing a game due to it, but when games are called due to rain (and they've passed the point of a complete game at 4.5 to 5 innings), they always revert back to the previous full completed inning. I've annoyingly lost stats that way in fantasy for like 15 years.

Sweet, you've lost fantasy points off of normal rain called game. This isn't normal.

Reverting back to the last completed full inning is actually very normal when games are called due to rain.
