I was about to go through the rear end for a second time when I read the number that completely soured me for working on it any further.
56. That’s how much horsepower they made stock. 56. All the time I spent hopping it up gave it maybe a 10-15% HP increase and that was too much for the spindly little rear end.
I’ll never waste money on a British car again.

Yeah, I went through two diffs in my Spit. BANG! DUNG, DUNG, DUNG.

Perhaps my funniest moment was when I had the hood forward (sure you know what I mean) and had the motor running. I heard a weird noise and looked down. The oil pressure sensor had failed catastrophically and oil was just flying out of the hole. I had more issues with electrics than anything else. Surely you know the joke about why Englishmen drink warm beer, right?

Not really. Just had horrible luck overall. Alternators, headlights, and so on. Almost every week.

Because they have Lucas refrigerators.

There was also another one that the part guys liked to tell me. Something about a guy driving a Spit pulling over to help a stranded lady. Her car had lost a bolt holding some part on and she asked if he had one. He went back to his Spit, shook it really hard and then found the right bolt out of all the ones that fell out.

Ha ha.

Little Billy and his Dad were down at the autocross watching the Spitfires zipping through the cones.
Little Billy looks up to his Dad and says, "Dad, when I grow up, I want to be a Spitfire driver."
His Dad looks down at him and says, "You can't do both, son."

For those of you who have never had the pleasure of owning a British car, but want to know what it's like: Next big rainstorm, wait till dark, roll down all windows, leave off lights & heater & wipers and go for a drive. Stop at every intersection and throw out a twenty dollar bill. It's not exactly the same, but it's real close.

I knew the answer to this one immediately.

I worked in an auto parts store in the 80's that specialized in British car parts. I hated that job and all British cars. What pieces of shit.

No it was in Shawnee, on 63rd St. I forget the name, Parts Stop maybe? This asshole named Frank owned it. He had another store on Broadway, near Westport.

He threw me under the bus one day when some guy came in to pick up a part that he was supposed to order. Chewed me out right in front of the customer. I woke up one Saturday and decided I didn't want to work there anymore. I didn't call or anything.
