Alex Smith got hurt. It wasn't handled properly. It lingered for longer than it should have.

2009+, after he had his shoulder injury corrected, he's never been rated lower than 80 and his rating has increased every season, especially arrival of Roman and Harbaugh. He's won playoff games and would have been a super bowl QB year before last, except his team turned the ball over twice on special teams.

Are we Chiefs fans so used to a high standard of quarterbacking that we would sneeze at someone who posted 90 and 100 ratings the last two years?

I don't think anybody expects him to be Tom Brady, but I expect Alex Smith to be as good as Trent Green was for us. There might be some room for development in his game as well, after all, Green wasn't a #1 overall. Andy Reid is good enough to get to the Super Bowl and I think Alex Smith is too, if the roster becomes talented. That isn't an overnight process.

We should have a much improved team this year and after the smoldering wreck Pioli left behind I don't know what more we could ask for in year one.

If Smith can put up the efficiency he did in SF under Harbaugh, here in Andy Reid's offense, the numbers will be there.

And we'll be excited.

However, simply using the numbers (QBR, etc) of the last 2 years is a little misleading. It wasn't in a similar offense to what he's going to run here under Andy Reid so while it is encouraging, it doesn't really tell the whole story.

And IMO, I don't think most who are worried about the injury history are that worried about the shoulder, it shouldn't be a problem.

It's the concussions that are scary. Especially if we have him in the pistol running around alot.

Don't concussions mean that someone is concussion prone? Isn't it true if you get concussions you have to be very careful and the risk for the number and severity of the concussions increases?

IIRC, he's had 2 concussions, pair that with the fact that studies are starting to show that concussions are more additive than once thought.

Concussion 3 might completely scramble his brain.

IMO, as I stated earlier, the biggest issue with Alex Smith are the concussion issues. I don't care about his shoulder, as he's been very accurate since 2011. But the concussions do worry me, especially with the NFL's new stance on concussions.

As to your question, I really don't know the exact answer. All I do know is that brain injuries are never a good thing.

I just did a Google search and all I can find is one concussion that occurred last season.

Can anyone verify that it was his second?
