This is the by definition the very problem. He doesn't do it to where the reward factor is there, and he probably only does it when a flanker is so open that is chance of **** up is minimal, which is why his percentage is misleading. Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers both have over 3.5x the amount of deep pass attempts and they are still superior, along with other QB's with a larger amount of attempts than AS for this statistical sample...

They had about 3 times more total passes...and that was across the board. In fact, Rogers had 4x as many passes behind the LOS (check down artist!!) I'm not sure that proves anything...other than they threw more. Unless you're going to argue that Alex was only as good as he was because teams didn't expect any passes and only played against the running game?

In the same offense, they go from Alex Smith throwing 19 deep balls to Kaepernick throwing 49. Just shows Alex Smith is a no balls pussy when it comes to throwing deep.

You can make that argument. I think you'll have a hard time making the argument that he lacks the ability to make the throws. He tends to save it for when he MUST do it.

You've got two Pro-Bowl level guys in Flowers and Berry. That's 50% of the secondary. You need more to be an elite secondary? (And Sean Smith should be pretty damn good in this defense, which will press a lot.) Free safety quality is going to be determined by Lewis' health - when he's healthy, he's a pretty good cover guy. As well, I have a lot of positive expectations regarding McDougald and Commings.

And they added Dunta Robinson at the nickel.

That's a pretty loaded secondary by anyone's estimation.

They are running the rookie Catapano at the OLB spot, and Chad Kilgore is going to be hard to keep off this team. In addition, Zombo is serviceable at the OLB spot.

Austin Collie was one of the best receivers in college football history. The guy was virtually uncoverable in the MWC. I really hoped that the Chiefs drafted him.

And yes, Manning makes receivers better. Brady as well. But you've got to have a little talent at the position to help the QB. There is no doubt that Bowe is the best receiver that Smith has worked with for his entire career. Hell, Bowe managed 1,000 yards nearly every single season with absolute garbage throwing to him. Smith will give him a much better ball to catch than he's ever had in his career. Should be a nice pairing based on both players strengths/skill sets.

Take it easy Chicken Little. Your false negativism is rapidly turning into personal despondency.

If you feel this strongly about the team, perhaps it's time to pick a new club to cheer for.

Personally, I'm getting pretty stoked about what Reid, Dorsey and Smith bring to the team. I think we'll be pretty good this season and in the foreseeable future (4-5 years).

I am not talking about bombs.

We need a passing offense that can effectively complete passes in the 15-35 yard range. Green was very good at that range, even though his deep ball wasn't very good.

Alex Smith isn't. And it's going to cost us.

I also don't think Alex Smith is good in the red zone. If you take a look, he threw the fewest TD passes in the entire NFL in 2011 when his team was in the red zone. His completion percentage and, of course, yardage, was also extremely low.

When the opposing team knows your QB can't put the ball in the end zone, bad things happen to your offense. That's just common sense.
