I think George Orwell wrote a book about the well-established tendencies of human beings and set it in a futuristic environment. Now it seems like he was prescient, but really he was reflecting what had already happened and you could park yourself in any year since that book came out and find reasons to believe he was a prophet because people are still people.

I was told by an English teacher or professor that he wrote the book in 1948 and chose the year of setting by swapping the eight and four.
