"Disquiet, Please!" a collection of humor writings from the New Yorker. Probably not as good as the other one they made called, "Fierce Pajamas," but I like it a lot. Worth getting from a library for even just the Woody Allen essays.

I'm currently reading Alas, Babylon, a classic apocalyptic novel. It was a bit slow at the beginning but is picking up now. It was written in 1959, so the glimpse into the mindset at the time is pretty interesting.

Just finished The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov
I can't believe I have never heard of this Novel. I enjoyed it very much, although it being a Russian Novel there were a shitload of Ivan's and it got confusing. |

Anyone heard of Ted Dekker. I heard his books were amazing but dark. Looking for a second opinion.

Audiobook-wise, I'm about to finish Jack Campbell's Lost Fleet series. Enjoyable military space opera.
Paper-wise I'm taking weeks upon weeks to finish the final Wheel of Time book. This one just isn't resonating with me for some reason. The voices of the main characters seem so far removed from what they were under Jordan. Except for Mat. I've already read all his chapters for the entire novel. |

I am reading "In Harm's Way," which is about the sinking of the U.S.S. Indianapolis. The people who survived the crash, floated in the ocean for days and were stalked, attacked and eaten by sharks. Crazy shit. This ship-wreck was referenced in the movie, Jaws. The character, Quint was a survivor on the U.S.S. Indianapolis. You all probably remember the scene where he talks about being on it and watching his crewmates being ripped to pieces. The part where he describes a shark as having dead, lifeless, black eyes until he bites you and they roll back and turn white.
I am also reading "War Room," aka the infamous Belichick-*****-Dmitroff-Patriots book. I haven't gotten far, but a lot of things I have come across so far has seemingly shed some light on things for me....especially pertaining to Pee-oleo. I didn't realize he was a successful D-lineman himself (was an all-New England defensive tackle at Central Connecticut) and was actually a D-line coach at Murray State when he and Belichick linked up. May explain his affinity for D-linemen a bit..... |

Finished Neuromancer tonight. Goddamn, that was difficult to follow. As hard as almost any high modern fiction.

Finished Atlas Shrugged last week. That one took me a bit of time. First book on the Kindle, so I didn't have a great perspective on how long it was. Just finished Inferno as well. Reminded me of Angels and Demons. Thought it was as step up after Lost Symbol. There is a lot of cookie cutter stuff to the Langdon novels, and Brown isn't the best writer in the world, but I still really enjoy that series.

I've just started The Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson.
Recently finished The Milkweed Triptych by Ian Tregillis. Good stuff, alternate history involving British warlocks fighting Nazi scientists. Much more to it than the description would lead you to think. Eagerly awaiting the publication of Emperor of Thorns by Mark Lawrence, the final novel of his Broken Empire trilogy. |
