Geno Smith vs Alex Smith - It's on.

It's on now. Geno Smith is probably going to be starting for the Jets this season.

Alex Smith will be the Chiefs QB for the forseeable future. If he's a success, we'll probably get five good years out of him.

So who's gonna win more NFL games over that time period?

Put your ten pounders on the table and make a vote

Alex: 11 wins
Geno: 8 wins

Alex can help make us respectable in the league again, but that's about as far as I'm willing to bet on him. I guess for now, it's enough.
This is one of the dumbest conclusions that one could have possibly come to regarding the leagues view of rookie QBs.
Its so stupid I can't even imagine how Your dumbass could actually believe it.

The rookie records are repeatedly being broken, and teams are finding out that passing on even a midget might mean missing out on potential franchise quarterback.

And you actually think this is a reason that teams would NOT want to not draft a quarterback.

Can you step back for a sec and see why everyone thinks you are

I've said many times before that Smith can win some regular season match ups. If all I cared about was the Chiefs remaking the 90's or early 2000's I guess that would be okay. But it's not. That's not acceptable.
Does that mean I'm going to stop being a fan? No. But it sure as **** doesn't mean I'm going to bury my head in the sand. It's a new season with a new regime that will more than likely be better than the last one. You're excited; I get it. And honestly, being ANYTHING other than a league joke is a step up at this point, I will concede that.
But that alone, again, is not enough. I simply will not back off and drink the Kool-Aid until we have addressed the QB position in a manner fitting a franchise that seeks to compete for Championships on a yearly basis.

That's where I'm at.
You're right, I want competitive football. What could the Chiefs have done last off-season? It's not like they could have manufactured a franchise QB in the draft when there wasn't one.

I can't hold it against Alex Smith because the powers that be didn't think there was someone they wanted to hand the keys to the franchise to.

I'm happy we have a coaching staff now that can maximize talent and are far removed from that circus that was the Pioli/Haley/Romeo era.

I'm willing to give it a chance before I shit all over it.

This crop of QBs was screwed because they aren't nearly as talented. It had nothing to do with comparing them to Luck, Griffin or Wilson.

That's an absurd statement.

Geno Smith just isn't nearly as good as people on this board proclaimed him to be.

It's entirely possible he is. Passing judgment on this kind of thing so early is silly.

One thing people don't seem to appreciate is the morale of the players. You would rather draft a QB to develop and suck for years instead of being respectable now. But the players don't want to hear about next year or the next. They want to be competitive and win now. What happens if KC drafts a Geno Smith... goes 3-13 this season.. ? Think the players.. the key players you all love.. think they won't lose respect and interest in giving their all? Think they won't be looking for the exit ASAP? Teams need to try their best to win every year... they need to appease the fans and the players. Alex will bring far more respectability this season than would some rookie or trash FA vet. Steep price? Sure... but he is under a team friendly contract.. and KC can still develop current or future QBs while they crawl up out of the NFL basement.

I'm just saying it's silly to say "Geno isn't as talented as people thought he was!"

He could very well turn out to be what I think he is.

You don't ****ing get it do you? We haven't won a playoff game in TWENTY ****ING YEARS. All the shit you are spewing has ALREADY HAPPENED.

Geno was about taking a CHANCE to be great. Alex Smith is another 'just good enough' guy.

Just good enough isnt good enough any more. Now hurry up and die.

The mind bending piece of logic that many of YOU dont get is that Dorsey and Reid believe that Alex Smith is a better QB than any of the QB's in the draft will end up being.

Its that simple.

Its laughable you would draft a guy you dont like and HOPE he turns out well which is basically the exact scenario you are pimping.

Realize because YOU think Geno has potential to be franchise doesn't mean that thought is shared by the NFL and draft day pretty much proved that.
