If you're rooting for injury you'd better root for the career ending type. Season ender will just mean he will be back next year.

It's amazing how polarizing Alex Smith is. Some view him as our only hope, while others think he is representative of the very problem of why we have been championshipless for so long.

Good observation.

We saw that for years on the 49ers forum. Some gave up on him as a bust. Others fell in love with his character and never gave up hope.

The QB position is polarizing like no other. Nobody comes to blows over corner backs or tight ends. But people will trash each other over QB. Double so when it is about Alex Smith. Everybody knows that the QB is the single most important guy on the field.

The mental fortitude is the one thing about Smith that gives me hope that he ascends to a higher level of play than he has ever has.

He's suffered a mental beat down through the early years, and just kept getting back up for more.

He lacks confidence in his ability to attack deep zones.
He doesn't need a QB guru to get past that.
He just needs someone that believes in him to push.

Andy Reid might be that guy.

I wish you luck. If Andy gets more out of Alex than Harbaugh did, it is good. It is good for you fans. It is good for playoff competition. It is good for football overall. You can't have too many stud QBs in football or too much high quality play.

Obviously I don't share your optimism. I really feel that Alex's caution and risk averse mentality is a glass ceiling he can't rise above. I continue to say, if he had Aaron Rodgers's attacking mentality, he could be at or near top 10 QB level. But he doesn't. At the end of the day, he is too worried about making mistakes.

This is good 90% of the time, but there are always a few times in every losing game where a QB needs to take an appropriate risk to seek an appropriate reward. So far, we haven't seen Alex do that. You can't throw a 6 yard pass on 3rd and 19 and hope your receiver goes for 14 YAC. But that is the kind of caution we've seen from Alex over and over.

If Andy can perform some kind of Vulcan mind meld or Jedi mind trick to cure Alex of that, then you have yourself a gem. As long as Alex is risk averse, then he is never going to rise above mid-tier. He is a solid, competent QB who can guide a strong team through the playoffs to win a super bowl. If Dorsey drafts a power house around Alex, Alex can guide them to a super bowl win.

But as long as Alex is risk averse, he will never be more than a mid-tier QB.

But I wish you well. If Alex becomes a stud QB, it is good for the state of football overall, so good luck with that.

Truer words were never spoken.

What's even more amazing is that he has QB'd a grand total of one pre-season drive for the Chiefs, and he is still / already that polarizing.

Quite a phenomenon. There must be some kind of scientific or psychological explanation for it.

Its definitely psychological.

Team has number one pick in the draft, hasn't drafted a qb since 1983 in the first round, and they trade for a guy who was benched on another team.

Team has done retread qbs for 30 years, backlash.

Unless Alex Smith is the qb of the Chiefs and wins a super bowl, he will never be accepted by some. Now, don't get it wrong, from what I gather, the majority of Chiefs fans, are very happy to have Alex Smith. But you know what they say. The squeakiest wheels are always the loudest.....

Polarizing only on CP and only among a small group.

HA! He was polarizing on every 49ers board in the ether. By mid season he will be polarizing on every Chiefs board. Bank on it! He will divide & conquer. He will be so good, half the forum will demand another year with him. The other half will demand better.

Get ready to rumble.

You could insert any name in that quote and you'd have described every year on ChiefsPlanet...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Seriously, like Swiss watch clockwork. The only thing that changes is the players name causing the division.

You and Clayton would rather have your team lose than be proven wrong, which only proves what low life POS you really are. Dying in an AIDS fire would be too good for either one of you scumbags.
