Danny Parkins-‏Hearing a couple of very interesting pieces of potential Chiefs news

Danny Parkins ‏@DannyParkins 2m

I'm hearing Dexter McCluster is unhappy he's not on the return team. #Chiefs looking at all options, including trade.

Ugh...

That draft was just absolutely loaded and we had 2 2nd and a high 3rd...we ended up with McCluster, Arenas and Asomoah.

We got schooled by the damn Raiders, who took Veldheer right after we took Asomoah.

Daryl Washington has always been the one that got away for me. Imagine him lining up alongside DJ. Spikes was another guy that would've been great there.

Even after 2009, Pioli could've saved his legacy here and perhaps even his job had he not also botched 2010. Then along game McCluster, Arenas and Moeaki over Washington, Cody and Graham.

All he has to do is go chalk there and he ends up with an incredible draft; right on par with Herm's 2008 draft. Instead the Chiefs will come away with Berry and scrap.

The 2008 draft wasn't enough to save Herm's job, but it will remain his legacy in my eyes. Pioli could've had the same thing with 2010, but instead he Pioli'd it up (because he's smarter than you) and we're stuck with nothing but candy wrappers and scorn.

And before anyone fires a "Iowa homer" bullet, go back to the 2010 CP mock draft and notice that I drafted Moeaki with a 5th round comp pick for Atlanta...which would have been a fantastic selection.
Why? He'd still be hurt all the damn time.

And you're right, had we not taken Tony Moeaki instead of Jimmy Graham, people would not dislike that pick as much.

You win.

The weird thing is the rookies beat San Diego almost single handily and without that we don't win the division or make the playoffs.

I'd take Asomoah any day.

People hate on big John and Hudson but they'll be here for YEARS...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

He doesn't have the skills (shiftiness, speed, or agility) to bust a big one. People see a small guy in the NFL and just automatically assume he's a playmaker. Knile Davis has shown more playmaking ability in three preseason games than McCluster has shown in three years. And I hated the Davis pick.
The only people who don't think McCluster had big play skills are on cp. He has those things, but hasn't shown it on the pro level. He doesn't have breakaway speed but he has terrific acceleration and you're completely wrong on shiftiness and agility.

In my opinion, the problem is he's been running with no vision, and he hasn't excelled in the one role he needs to. Slot receiver. Some of that is because he still needs to improve as a receiver, and some because he was put in a lousy situation.

But it has to happen now. There are no excuses not to make big plays right away.

I like Asomoah, but Veldheer's better.

And no, Hudson won't be here for years. That guy's gone next season.

He hasn't shown it on the pro level because he doesn't have it on the pro level.

He has big play skills about like Ryan Leaf had Franchise Quarterback skills. Or Mike Williams had elite #1 WR skills.

He has almost all the parts, but without balance and vision, they're worth jack and squat. He doesn't have big play skills because he lacks 2 necessary components to making them. Just like Leaf didn't have the smarts and Williams didn't have the speed, he's missing a critical element.

He isn't an NFL playmaker. The requisite skills aren't all there.

Hudson's an interesting case. I thought he looked good last season. I wonder if he's fully recovered from his injury...it wasn't slight.

A little early to panic on that guy after just a couple preseason games.

Exactly. If he had the ability he would at least flash that ability every once in awhile. I haven't seen those flashes. I can't even think of times where I thought to myself..."Man, he almost broke that one." That's because he doesn't have the skills to break it.

I disagree on skill sets. I agree on maybe smarts. He's shown shitty vision and he's frustrating to watch run, because he doesn't seem to use the right moves at the right time. I don't know if coaching can fix it. There's a part of me that thinks he's way too overconfident.

As I've always said, he has to improve as a receiver to succeed. He just doesn't look comfortable to catch and run, and he has to warn touches versus getting them through gimmicks. As of right now, I don't think his skills will translate on an Nfl level, but just want one last look with a real offensive coach and QB to make sure. Because I think the skills are there, but he's just using them horribly.
