Final thoughts on preseason

This team just looks better. Just all around, even our suck is better than our suck in years past. You can tell we have a staff of coaches that know wtf they are doing. It's refreshing as we haven't seen that since the DV days when you get to it.

Obviously we haven't played a meaningful down yet and you can tell that there is room to improve but I think everyone is getting the sense that we are doing just that, improving. Worst to first? Most likely not but in this division it may not be unreachable.

Offense:
Running game looks rather weak but we were without JC against SF and went against the Steelers the next game. 2 very, very good defenses. So is our running game that bad or were we facing good defenses? Probably some of both.

Smith is going to be the proverbial game manager and if his preseason is any indication of what is to come that can suffice for now. His throws are accurate and receivers aren't jumping, reaching, diving, or sliding to catch passes ala Cassel. Don't turn it over, control the clock, rest the defense. That is a winnable recipe even if it is a boring one.

Tyler Bray......kid is going to be good in 2-3 years. If he pays attention to who he is learning from, we are going to have a bad ass QB.

Defense:
Its on! This defense is getting after it and though it may be a feast or famine defense, it's obvious that the days of Romeo's read-react defense is gone. This is attack, attack and attack some more. I think Poe and TJax are going to take big steps in the right direction this year.

Special Teams:
What can you say? They looked awesome all preseason long.

I see shades of Marty ball coming with a ball control offense, relentless defense and strong special teams. We just replace the power running with dinking and dunking in the passing game.

Forgot about that deep ball that Flowers got toasted on in the first game, too.

If Flowers has lost a step, yeesh.

Our starting qb was on pace for 300 yards passing against last years top defense. I'd say that's a sign of something

New defensive scheme, different coverage philosophy and new pieces playing together. Like the offensive line, I expect improvement between weeks 1-4 and something fun to watch in Oct.

Very little. 0 sacks for Hali and Houston. Wide open receivers everywhere. The opposition left two long TDs on the field because of an overthrow and a bobbled ball.

What signs did we show of being able to pass?

Well, there was that 60 seconds last week.

So, yeah.

That's where I'm at.
Read post 74 and why Reid doesn't want to get his QB killed.

We never got Charles going. That should help the pass and the offense in general. We clearly Aren't gonna light it up on offense though. And I wouldn't worry about Hali and Houston. I truly believe the D will be fine.

Why don't you look at it this way: Packers fans and Patriots fans have way more this preseason to be afraid of and put SIGNIFICANTLY worse performances than the Chiefs did. The Packers got lit up by the CARDINALS and the Pats got destroyed by the Lions 40-9. Abysmal.

Both of those teams can win the Superbowl.

I think we're about to see big things from this defense, special teams and running game and I agree with others that this looks like the best of Martyball coming back and I couldn't be happier.

We even have reason to hope with a young quarterback and a young receiver (Junior Hemingway). Lighten up.

24 attempts.

Just a sign of a QB throwing a lot, nothing else.

Mork Castille could rack up 3hundy on 48 attempts.

Clearly, anyone thinking that they can use the preseason as a precursor as a reason to panic about the defense, should stop posting.

Bob Sutton is a blitzing whore.

Did you see any exotic blitzes?

I didn't. I saw some basic blitzes, but nothing exotic.

The Chiefs are going to unload against the Jags, and then certain turds on this board will be all "YAYZ WE AREZ DA AWESOMEZ!!!!"

Which is fine. I expect the Chiefs defense to be a complete menace.

You know what turds im referring to. I don't mention bitches by name though.

More excuses. Now he has too many attempts.

What can't be ignored is that the team is run like a professional organization is supposed to be run. It is obvious that the players are responding to the coaching staff. They are well organized, disciplined, and motivated. Proof is in the low penalties and lack of stupid moves by the players. I see an 8-8 season as a realistic objective for a team that only won 2 games last year. The future looks good for this team.
