I came here intending to give a balanced view to Chiefs fans of Alex's genuine strengths and weaknesses. I'm hard on him because I feel strongly that only exceptional QBs are worth having, and that GMs MUST always relentlessly pursue that course of action, and anything less is failure. But I'm not a Chiefs fan or their GM. I mostly came here to try to give my balanced view on Alex.

By now there is nothing about him you don't already know, so my work there was done, even if it was never needed.

I also came here due to my history with Snoopy, Alex Smith Fan, Maverick Ace. I felt he was going to blow smoke up your butts and made myself an unneeded and unwanted crusader in that regard. I knew there would be a core of guys here playing up all Alex's strengths while downplaying his weaknesses. Made it my business to balance that out. Like I said, probably not needed.

Either way, Snoopy is a lot more reasonable these days and frankly, a whole lot less irritating as well. I'll give him huge Kudos for vastly improving his bedside manner since coming here. So my useless work there is done too.

Mostly I've stayed because it is a "fun" forum. While I don't care for how crude and vulgar you guys can get with the constant insults, I do appreciate the loose, freewheeling, unrestrictive atmosphere.

I love the 49ers forum I'm on for its information and the fact we all have the 49ers in common but it gets really stifling with its strict rated "G" tone and penchant for strictly enforced rules. It is an "official" NFL board and that requires rated G posting. At its worst, it can feel oppressive.

This place definitely is never stifling.

Other than that "Go Kaepernick!"

So basically, no one so far is interested in starting their own 49ersPlanet.com forum and running it basically like this one is run. (of course with PatriotsPlanet.com they are less "open" than we are here but still much less restrictive compared to anything else they had)

How would someone start that?

I mean if you goal is to get rid of the 49er guys, I would be interested in starting something like that.

But I would need your advice and the such.

I have no anti-49ers fan agenda. So the goal isn't to get rid of anyone BUT it seems like a bunch of 49ers fans enjoy the culture here and might like to replicate that on a board dedicated to THEIR team. This same thing happened years ago with PatriotsPlanet. They wanted a more loosely moderated BBS so I got a core group of them together and I built the site and gave them admin access and they built their own community. I honestly check in there about once every year or two... completely absentee except when they need tech stuff and upgrades.

No, I don't think I would be interested. This place is a great novelty and I enjoy in on occassion. I go to the 49er board regularly where I get hard news about the team & players, links to videos, articles, tweets, whathave you. Man, the draft coverage alone on that forum makes it worth it, let alone the rest of the year.

It is a great forum, just frustrating in that an adult living in a PG13/R world is always at risk of repercussions for forgetting there are children in the room, as it were.

But no, I think a stand alone 49ers Planet would end up with 20 guys quickly boring each other.

Sorry we invaded your space and ruin so many threads. I can only hope that dies down over time, but Alex is so polarizing, I am ashamed to say it is here to stay as long as Alex is.

I really like this place for a change up, where I can indulge a naughty alter ego. Can't post boobies on the 49er forum.

But my main "home" is back on the 49ers forum. That is where I spend most of my time.

The Alex threads are just a train wreck I can't help watching.

Yup that is the biggest issue. You really need a solid dedicated core group to get started and then if the BBS itself is engaging enough it will draw people from the other boards as they chafe at the strict rules. Chance of success is entirely dependent on the dedication of the guys who found the board.

Yes, the appeal is that I'm not in constant fear of a ban or getting punished or having threads deleted and closed. I love the 49ers forum for the information and personalities but it is pretty stifling at times.
