What does everyone think of supporter powers?

To add some background supporters pay $10 a month and they get the ability to issue infractions or warnings and if the person gets enough of infractions he gets temp ban for a day or 2.

Some of the people in DC are upset that shtsprayer got temp banned because of some comments he made and believe that supporter powers are too strong.

On the flip side DaFace made a good point yesterday that if it wasn't for the few of us supporters Malboro Chief would have posted a ton of porn yesterday but we were able to ban him almost immediately.

So what does everyone think? Good idea, bad idea?

Both of them have had run-ins with SHTSPRAYER before and IMO, Frazod in particular, welcomed an excuse to use his wonder powers on him.
For what it's worth, I was aware of the SHTSPRAYER temp ban and allowed it to stand. I check in on the infractions every couple days to make sure there's no one going crazy. Would I have banned him in the first place? Maybe, maybe not. But his post was certainly questionable, so I decided to let the temp ban stand.

You all can continue to argue about that choice over in DC; that's not the intent of my post here. I just wanted to make it clear that this isn't some system sitting out there where someone could go crazy unnoticed.

Also I believe it wasn't a Jizz on my face thread, it was Luv wondering why guys thought that was hot.

Not that I'm defending the situation, but you should have known the risk factors going into making that thread.
Fire Me Boy! red carded me. I didn't feel that something that obviously a parody would cause a stir....my bad.

Thanks DaFace and Austin for clarifying all of this. So basically it is not like what the whiners think it is and you guys actually watch over who gets infractions and what not.

Therefore I conclude all the whining is for not. Thanks.

I think that it's a good system, so long as the mods are moderating *that* system. It lets the community do the heavy lifting when it comes to moderating the forum. I've been trying to figure out a way to do such a thing, and I think that this system is as good as I've seen - despite the fact that it does invite a fair amount of drama when people want to start mincing over what constitutes racism and what doesn't. Which isn't altogether a bad discussion to have. But at the end of the day, it forces people to consider the audience - the community - and think twice about posting over the top stuff.

I think it's a bad idea. If this board needs more monitoring, just add another moderator, otherwise I think it sets a bad precedent and is going to be abused eventually. I guess it's a clever way to increase donations, but I don't see the point otherwise.

The "I don't care what you think" directly stems from people lining up to defend an out and out troll, who, if he shared an antipodal political belief, the same people would be lining up to pillory.

Jets fans show up to warn us about Herm: permabanned

Jet fans shows up and consistently spews thinly veiled racist garbage but does so from a common political viewpoint: Keep him around.

It's hog shit.

I think you bring up a good point TJ. In the past people would post all kinds of crazy stuff and the worst that could happen would be neg rep but who cares about that. Now maybe people will watch to some degree what the say or how they say it. I am not advocating censorship so much as some kind of decorum.

I think that BK abused the system in banning Chiefdawn by going back in old posts to find something to red card so as to get the poster banned. Maybe I should contribute some money to get some power and find three BK drunken stupid posts and ban him. See how great he thinks it is then.

People should be free to wish for the death of a presidential candidate without repercussion, facist.

Yes I did.

**** it, DaFace, please take away my Supporter Status or at least my Infraction powers. Its now obvious that jjchieffan doesn't really care about the whole situation, just me personally.

Thanks.
