We don't know that Cassel wasn't a backup plan, just in case the QB that Pioli liked wasn't available to us at 3, and our front office didn't want to go into the season with Thiggy and Brokie at QB.

There are a lot of worse things you can do than spend your first 2 picks on a QB, especially if you were able to trade one of them away at no cost to you. (which we could actually do with both at this point--and this post is not directed at Mr. htismaqe)

Spot on.

Trading for Cassel allows this team to possibly be competitive AND let the youth develop at the same time.

If you think either Stafford or Sanchez is eventually going to develop into an elite QB, you take him. People act like it would be the worst possible scenario to have 2 legit QB's. I'm sure Packers fans are pissed beyond belief that Aaron Rodgers sat for 4 years.

If Cassel shows he can't get it done without Moss and Welker, then you have an even younger QB with more potential waiting in the wings.

If Cassel has a decent season, you can make a decision to sell him off to the highest bidder while his value is at its peak, or do the same with Stafford/Sanchez. Or keep both on the roster another year.

This isn't going to be a quick fix, folks. I'd much rather have the most important position on the field be a strength for the foreseeable future, than to take someone else at #3 because we felt we had no other choice.

If KC takes Sanchez and Cassel has a good year. Do you really think KC would be able to get a top 3 pick for Sanchez next year?

Why does EVERYTHING on this board HAVE to be either black or white?

You either HATE the Chiefs and bash everything they do, or you're a homer and a "real fan" that would let the Chiefs sell your first-born because they said it's the best thing to do for the team.

When's the last time a team took a RT in the Top 5? Gimme a break.

He's a better pick than a RT, I'll give you that.

You are a CP reerun if you think we should use our first and second round picks on a QB. (i.e. Hamas mock drafting Sanchez after we traded our 2 for Cassel.)

I'm sure people will take that as a "crossing fingers" moment, claiming I've wanted a QB all along, and trading for Cassel threw a wrench into that.

Personally, I'm not sure how anyone can say with any certainty that Pioli WOULDN'T take a QB at #3 - nothing he does on the weekend of the 25th would surprise me.

If Cassel was signed to a long-term deal, there wouldn't be this speculation.

The questions you have to ask yourself:

Is Cassel not signed because Pioli wants some flexibility on draft day?

Is Cassel not signed because Pioli views him as a stop-gap until Stafford/Sanchez is ready to start?

Is Cassel not signed as a smokescreen to make other teams think we're in the mix for Stafford/Sanchez?
