I started thinking about this yesterday and then again last night.

I've been a Chief fan for 38 long years. I've seen every game in person or on TV since 1989. Before that I listened to them on the radio when they didn't show them up here in northern Iowa and obviously before Directv/ST.

Back in the 70's I would stay up to watch MNF just to catch one highlight of the Chiefs on the halftime show, if you were lucky.

It seems crazy now that I can watch every game, that I would even fathom not watching them. But after I hear that the Chiefs simply weren't in the Manning sweepstakes because of money and then I see what I saw last night, it really makes me think, why am I watching? And at times feel like am I wasting my time? Because it sure doesn't feel like this franchise is putting everything into winning as much as I have the past almost 40 years.

I had way more anger yesterday than good feelings that came out of my normal 12+ hours in the Man cave of watching Pre-game and actual games.
I hated that the Chiefs lost, hated that the Broncos won, so what's the point really? I'm waiting for that one magical season from the Chiefs that may or may not happen. Will it all really be worth it?

I know this, I think I'm addicted. If I tried not to watch football on Sunday I might go nuts, but when I do, I'm so angry most of the time (at the Chiefs) I'm crazy. I have literally watched every Sunday of football since I was 10 and this December I will be 48. It has consumed me and I don't know how to quit.

I gave up all hope after the 95 playoff loss to the Colts. This franchise will always be about the regular season and will never do shit in games that really count.

Chiefs apologize after telling fan to “get a clue” on Twitter

Posted by Michael David Smith on September 12, 2012, 9:29 AM EDT
Getty ImagesWhen a longtime Chiefs fan named Travis Wright got frustrated by Sunday’s loss to the Falcons, he took to Twitter to declare that he couldn’t be much of a fan anymore, accusing owner Clark Hunt of being cheap and adding an obscenity.
When the Chiefs employee who handles Twitter for the team saw that, he took umbrage and sent a private direct message to Wright, telling him to “get a clue.” That wasn’t very smart, because Wright posted the message on Reddit, where hundreds of people ripped the Chiefs for their poor fan relations.
Eventually, the employee who runs the Chiefs’ Twitter (whose name hasn’t been released publicly) tweeted this apology:
Kansas City Chiefs
@kcchiefs
I apologize to the fans for my response to a tweet sent to me earlier. No excuse for my actions. I am truly sorry and it won't happen again.

11 Sep 12
Wright told KSHB in Kansas City that the Chiefs didn’t apologize to him personally, and they’ve blocked him from seeing their Twitter messages.
“The funny thing about [the apology] is that I personally didn’t see it,” Wright said. “They didn’t apologize to me, they apologized to everyone else because of the backlash.”
The incident is reminiscent of the time in 2008 when then-Browns General Manager Phil Savage responded to a critical e-mail from a fan by e-mailing him back and saying, “Go root for Buffalo-f#@* you-.” Team employees at all levels would be wise to learn that if a fan rips you online, you’re best off ignoring it.

That is awesome. I can't believe there's not a 400+ post thread on here about it.

It's all over many of the sports wires and was a headline on Yahoo sports

I know this subject has been covered ad nauseum, but lets take a different look at it. The Chiefs suck, they aren't going anywhere anytime soon. The Buckeyes are on a bowl ban, they are way overrated at #12, and watching them on Saturday made me sad. I realized that this team has a long way to go before I consider them good. I have become some apathetic towards the Chiefs and the Buckeyes that a lot of times I just don't care. I only watched 2Chiefs games last year. The Buckeyes I watched all their games, but never with great expecations.

When do you reach a point where you realize that your time is better off doing something productive? Have you as a fan reached that point? Are you a fan who will never do that? I admit that I will not go out of my way to go to Damon's and pay for lunch so I can watch the Chiefs this year. I remember the days of Trent Green and Priest Holmes, I was actually excited to watch the Chiefs, but I digress. I will keep watching the Buckeyes, but man does it suck to have teams you know aren't going to do anything this year.

I don't think I watched more than a half dozen Chiefs games from the period when Stram was fired until Marty came in. They were never on local TV. The franchise is not quite that low, but its coming close. The Chiefs were in the playoffs three times in the last decade and were one of the winningest franchises in the 90s, though that came without playoff success.

The Chiefs went 15 years without getting to the playoffs and had only three winning seasons in between, an 8-6 campaign in 1972, 7-5-2 in 1973 and a 9-7 season in 1981. It was so bad they ran a wing-T because they had no receivers. A few years later they set franchise records for passing yards with a pathetic rush attack that could only average 3.2 ypc.

I am going to go into each season now assuming they will suck. If they don't it will be gravy. It won't change as long as Clark Hunt signs the checks.

For the last 42 years, I have been a loyal fan to the Chiefs, Pittsburgh Pirates, and the Washington Bullets (now Wizards).

This has sapped the strength and positivity out of me more times than I can remember rooting for and being a truly loyal fan to three teams that have sucked a lot more than they have been good. They have also rarely been in any championship, a total of 5 times since I started following them. That's 3 teams x 42 years = 126 team years with 5 appearances. THAT SUCKS!

None of my friends follow any of these teams, only my brother follows the Pirates with me and not to the degree of me.

So why am I still a fan? I am a loyal guy and stay to the bitter end, including jobs and companies I should have left long before the shit hit the fan. Stupidity? Stubbornness? Loyalty?

I guess I don't like to be a fair weather friend.

That is all.......

Friend? Hate to break it to you, but they don't give a shit about you unless you're giving them money... and even then it's pretty questionable.

I love football, and the Chiefs are the only team I care about. I watch all their games, even if they do piss me off more than they make me happy.

As far as going to the games... well, at least tailgating, and spending time with family and friends is still worth it to me.

I'm not a "true fan", I still think Cassel blows, and definitely don't hope for mediocrity, but I'm happier when we win.
