Tyrann Mathieu reiterates he wants to stay in Kansas City at NFL Honors
Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu — a nominee for the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year Award — joined NFL Network on the red carpet ahead of the NFL Honors in Los Angeles. Mathieu is due to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason after three seasons in Kansas City.

“Obviously, the hope and the dream is to continue to be a Kansas City Chief,” said Mathieu. “We created so much history the last couple of years... I want to be in Kansas City, and I think everybody knows that.”

That is what we had on hand while having/relying on HB. Going into the draft and FA knowing he isn’t going to be there is an entirely different ball game.

And again, if he is making business decisions during a contract year, how good do you expect him to be after he gets paid, especially given his age?

This is a no brainier as far as I’m concerned.

Remember that he's a safety. Even if he loses a touch of top end speed he should still be able to play deep. He wouldn't be able to multi-task like he does now with nickel corner and everything else but he can still be an effective safety.

Sneed has 2 more very affordable years on his contract; & Sneed played some Safety in college. If Jones can be tried at DE, who’s to say they wouldn’t try Sneed at Safety if HB leaves? I’m not advocating for this, especially with the CURRENT CB depth. But it wouldn’t shock me. Especially if they land some CB depth between now & training camp. And yes, I am clinically insane.

I won’t be shocked to see him return soon a 2/18 type deal to stay in KC. I doubt he gets offered much more than that on the open market.

He’ll get a decent offer from Baltimore or someone like that. Veach can choose to offer just under that if he wants, and then HB can make his choice if he wants to uproot his family and his wife’s new business and start all over again in a new city for the 4th time.
