What If The QBOTF Isn't There?
http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2011/1...here#storyjump
What If The QBOTF Isn't There? 1528290_f520_tiny by citadelchief on Nov 30, 2011 7:08 AM CST From the FanPosts -Joel As we begin to accept that the Kansas City Chiefs will probably miss the playoffs and will be drafting in the top 15 next year, there is a lot of talk about who the Chiefs should be taking...OK, we've already been talking about it for a couple months now. Obviously, the majority of Chiefs fans are looking at QB with the first pick, and rightfully so. Personally, I agree. I would love for KC to get Andrew Luck, Matt Barkley, or Robert Griffin III. However, I am a plan for the worst and hope for the best type of guy. Star-divide Looking ahead at the 2012 NFL Draft, I see some very worrisome possibilities in the Chiefs drafting the QBOTF with the first pick. It is a strong QB class with plenty of potential stars, journeymen starters, and quality backups. However, we have had our fill of journeymen and backups...we want our star. So, that limits our options to Luck, Barkley, and Griffin. So what's the problem? There are several: 1. Indianapolis - The Colts have all but wrapped up the 1st overall pick, and with an aging Peyton Manning coming off of an injured neck, they would have to be crazy to pass over Andrew Luck. 2. Miami - Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. That's what everyone needs to be thinking when it comes to Matt Moore. The Dolphins would be nuts to put their future in his hands. The Panthers tried that, and now have Cam Newton...so the Dolphins will get Matt Barkley. Hmm, maybe the Chiefs should sign Matt Moore so we can get our QBOTF? 3. Washington - John Beck or Rex Grossman? Yeah, let's face it, the Skins will be going QB early this year. The good news here is that Landry Jones is rated higher than RGIII on some boards...so maybe the Chiefs dodge a bullet with that one. 4. Seattle - That bullet we just dodged? Yeah, it turned around and got us. Seattle gave up a 3rd rd pick for Charlie Whitehurst so they wouldn't have to draft a QB. They signed Tavaris Jackson so they wouldn't have to draft a QB. I really don't see this happening a 3rd time. Griffin just got snagged. 5. Arizona - Kevin Kolb failed miserably. There was some life with John Skelton, but that quickly fell apart as well. The Cardinals may be looking at a new coach and a new QB to go with him. If any of those top 3 are available, I just can't see them passing on that opportunity. 6. Philadelphia - What?! That's right, you heard me. Don't think for a second that the Eagles won't pull the trigger if the opportunity is there. Mike Vick started out great for them, but then he has steadily declined, just like he did in Atlanta. Vince Young has played well enough that he can probably get himself a pretty good opportunity somewhere else. 7. New York - Don't get it twisted, Mark Sanchez is playing for his future right now. Rex Ryan pulling him off the 1st team for a couple practices wasn't about him losing his job to Mark Brunell this year, it was about him losing his job to a new guy next season. Sanchez isn't down and out yet, but if the Jets don't make the playoffs? Well, Sanchez might want to warm up his clipboard arm. So there it is. My list of concerns. And this doesn't include the teams like Chicago, Denver, and New Orleans who will be in the market for backups and future projects. Now, the Chiefs do have the option to trade up. The Jets did it for Sanchez and the Falcons did it for Jones...but are the Chiefs in the same place as either of those teams? I look at the roster, and it sure doesn't appear that way. I'm not against a trade up, but I can't say I'm thrilled about the idea. |

Its just time to take a chance. If we do and it fails, then maybe we get really lucky and Stanzi or even Orton works out. We can't afford to take that chance. To me its a much bigger gamble to pass on a QB or not trade up and let Orton/Stanzi/Cassel lead the group of players we have locked up. To me the question of which is a bigger gamble isn't even close. |

I have spent a lot of time watching videos of Luck, Barkley and RG3 lately. I have watched Luck all year and watched Barkley in the Stanford vs. USC game. Not to mention, an array of youtube vids. Anyways, I may be in the minority here, but the one who impresses me the most out of all three of them is RG3. Luck is dynamite for sure as well... I don't think anyone in the right mind would question that, but Barkley.... he seems to be slow on his feet, have a slow release and overthrow his receivers a lot. I watched Landry Jones vs. Texas, in which OU killed them, but to be honest.... something about the guy reminded me a lot of Cassel so I didn't want to watch him for the remainder of the year. I'd be very upset if the Chiefs ended up with him.
I am calling hype on Barkley and Jones and yes I am aware of Barkley's 39/7 TD/Int... due to the eye test, I'm still not convinced. |

Barkley has sold me a lot more as of late. To me its really close right now and I would be happy with either one of them. Reality is, that even if the schedule plays out in our favor across the league, we may be taking the 3rd QB in this draft. Not only can a few teams that need a QB finish ahead of us, but a trade is always an option for teams like MIA or WAS. I doubt Pioli trades up for a QB. We can't even be sure we take one at all. Even if we do want a QB the choice may be made for us. I just hope we have a shot at one of them. |

So if Flynn was drafted in the 2nd round, would that make him play any better?

No, but it'd be a better indication of his level 'o talent according to the professional scouts.

Trent Green wasn't a failed QB for us. He was actually very good. It was the horseshit defense that ****ed us. And Bill Cowher? Get the **** outta here. 1 SB ring in 15 ****ing years.... No coaches get 15 years anymore, and they shouldn't. |

This. He only completed passes to ridiculously wide open receivers and missed almost all tight coverage passes. |

Matt Barkley files for draft evaluation Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on December 1, 2011, 8:58 AM EST USC quarterback Matt Barkley has submitted paperwork to the NFL draft advisory board to help him decide whether he’ll go pro this year, according to ESPNLosAngeles.com. This is a normal procedure, but it’s the logical next step for the USC junior. Barkley joined NBC SportsTalk on Thursday and admitted that he’s “possibly” played his last game at USC. Mike Mayock joined Peter King’s NFL podcast this week that Barkley was better than he expected. Mayock pointed out that Barkley does a great job making quick decisions, while avoiding sacks and interceptions despite playing behind a mediocre offensive line. Mayock said Barkley’s physical skill set isn’t overwhelming, but he looks like a first round pick. Barkley was compared to a more “polished” Andy Dalton coming out of school. Considering the sanctions against USC, we’d guess that Barkley will go pro if the draft advisory board agrees with Mayock as expected and says Barkley’s a first round pick. |

![]() For some reason, I keep thinking there is a sleeper pick in there that may succeed moreso than these other prospects. I don't know what it is about Landry Jones that reminds me of Cassel... his mechanics, his release, I don't know... but I got a sick feeling in my gut when I first watched the guy play because my first thought was, Cassel. Haha, how sad is that? Mere flashes of Cassel in another player can give Chief fans a sick feeling in their guts. To Landry's defense though, I didn't see him pull the infamous Cassel-crappage when he was under pressure. |
