No names yet. I'm pretty confident in the info that Pioli floated the info about Romeo to try to convince McKid to come here. They never asked for permission, and technically Romeo could talk to Josh, but Romeo did not find out about these developments until this morning.

Yes, Romeo wanted McDaniels. Pioli leaked that the interim tag was coming off to entice McDaniels.

Everyone is getting to bent out of shape over this hire and who will be the OC. Recent NFL history indicates that the head coach matters little to the team's success. Sure, it could mean the difference between picking in the top five in the draft and an average team, but not an annual powerhouse who year after year is in the discussion of teams likely to compete for the Superbowl. That distinction goes to the teams with QBs that play at an elite level. Period.

It wasn't always that way. The league rules pertaining to hitting the QB and defending WRs was such that teams that Schottenhiemer and Peterson built could be good enough to win. But that isn't the case in 2011.

Pioli's job doesn't hinge on this hire. It hinges on his ability to identify a top tier QB. So far he has failed.
