Every game they play is a risk and a serious injury could cost them future years of their contract. If anything, they should be getting about 20% above their weekly rate to play that extra game.

Taking the bye week away for the 2 seed and replacing it with a home game instead takes a week of rest directly from the players and gives it to the owner's pocketbooks. It also takes a week away from the home fans pocketbooks as well. That puts the players of the Chiefs as having to play a 21 game regular season to win the Super Bowl. Also I don't normally quote Fescoe but he brought up the point that what happens with that extra regular season game, which team is the home team? Who's gets 9 home games vs 8 away games instead of the other way around? Is it going to be played at a neutral site?

Unfortunately most people don't think like that and only tend to focus on the negative, losing a preseason game helps but most starters don't play in those games.

With the absurd salaries these guys get paid for what they do any complaint always sounds crazy. My wife who is a physician loses her mind when she hears a guy deserves to get paid 40 million a year, while she works 60-80 hours a week and makes less than NFL league minimum.

I understand that but to be fair, these guys have very small earnings windows. On top of that they are the very tip top of what they do. Being an NFL player is like the .00001%.

For example in her field, would she get upset that the best neurosurgeon in the world makes a lot more than her?

And my wife is a teacher in the public school system and has her Masters in child psychology and she gets paid shit. We can play the envy game all we want, but it's better if we just realize that wasn't our life and we can't do anything about it.

At least we might be able to bring back more people from IR now. That’s dumb. You should be able to bring back anyone from IR

Either way you look at it is very hard for the fans to sympathize with the players or the owners and I think strike would hurt them both so in the end I believe they will get something done and it will not included an extra week.

They are not absurd when you look at the amount of revenue being produced by their product. Their talent also has an active span that averages 4-5 years.
Doctors are valuable and do good work, but to equate the two is what is absurd. Your wife is getting paid less than previous physicians as revenues are decreasing due to government controls on healthcare. Also, Elite Doctors in their field make way more than a standard physician, just like elite football players make way more than Arena football players. If her skills allowed her to be an elite Doctor in a specialty field, an elite athlete or movie star, then she could make large dollars based on revenues as well. This is how it works.

Disagree with you here... IR would be manipulated by teams to add more players to their rosters. It should be used for those players truly injured for long periods of time instead of parking players there instead of cutting them and allowing another team to acquire their talent. JMO

I agree but I think they should put terms on it to prevent that from happening. A rule that says you can’t bring back a player from IR unless they’ve had surgery would help that situation.

They better do something to offset QB salaries or those arm talents will continue going to other sports where they can make more $ without the risk of major injuries or holding the team back. The league has a lot of Marquee names it’s losing in the near future that need replaced with new blood.

Brady
Brees
Rivers
Rothlisbergsr
Manning
Rodgers
Ryan

That’s a lot of new faces of the league they need to replace...
