What Was The First Album You Bought?

Yes, album. If you young pups want to list the first CD/iTune/whatever, you bought first, I suppose that's okay.

I'll go first: the soundtrack to Escape From New York. Awesome.

Lots of great choices on this thread.
Many of your firsts were my 12th, 49th, 100th, 160th, etc.
So many good tunes to absorb.

Listening to Kansas - Song For America right now.

First music ever was a 45, actually a gift from Xmas exchange at school. - Jack and Diane.
Don't recall buying any specific records - almost certainly nothing new.
First cassette - either King of Rock or Kill 'Em All. MoF, I think I bought them at the same time. Venture Store on Bannister.

Wouldn't I love to have a mint Kill 'Em All on vinyl today?

First CD - Journey - Greatest Hits.

If that happened, once she flipped the tape over, she would start in the middle of the other side of the tape and the whole emotional moment you'd been crafting would be lost in an instance. Making a mix tape was definitely an art form.
Kevin Smith had a conversation with his daughter about mix tapes on Shmodcast last father's day. He was teasing her because a boy was trying to talk to her at her dance recital and he thought she should make him a mix tape to show her 'true love.' I swear I teared up a little. Wonder if little Harley will guest this week too?

So many great funk bands back then. Ohio Players, Earth Wind & Fire, Kool and the Gang, Tower of Power and my favorite, Sly. Now they're all out playing the casino circuit.

I think this was the first funk album I bought as a kid and I bought it because I thought the cover was cool. Turned out the music wasn't at all what I expected- it was more psychedelic than funk and I loved it.

My funk buying decisions were usually determined by what I heard on Soul Train every Saturday.

Now I'm going to have to do some video browsing. Let's see if I can understand the lyrics to "Mighty Mighty" 30 years later.

Eddie Hazel could give Jimi Hendrix a run for his money on guitar. I have a T-Shirt with that Maggot Brain cover. Bought it a couple years ago, always get's comments when I wear it.
