Matt Cassel: Good or Bad?

We may as well have an easy point of reference for people to be able to come back and eat their crow when this all pans out. Everyone always says I knew it all along. Step up and put it down.

I don't think a 2nd round pick is terrible, but I don't think Matt Cassel will pan out in KC. I'll put it down right here, right now. And now I'll start praying I'm wrong.

Forget the trade. The only thing I want you to commit too is whether or not Cassel is a good or bad choice for QBOTF.

I'm not saying that this is a bad trade, it's not. But this isn't some slam-dunk rape job, either. Drew Brees, Kris Jenkins, Chad Johnson, Matt Forte, DeMeco Ryans, Rashean Mathis, Karlos Dansby, Michael Roos, and Thomas Howard are all high second round picks from just the last decade. There is a lot of value with that pick.
While he made similar shitty picks, who can we question a guy who have won 3 SB's, compared to Carl's zero?

Because he's made shitty picks, is a human being, and was never the guy.

While true, at least he didn't trade a 2nd round pick for Herman Edwards.

Now it's a 2nd rounder? It was a 4th.

In 10 years are people gonna be saying we traded an entire draft for Herman Munster?

Yeah, but it's not like we traded the pick for Pat Surtain. We got two starters out of that one pick. For a team that's trying to rebuild, I don't think that's a bad deal. All of the players you listed are good picks, and there will be good players there this year. But I don't understand the logic that acts like the pick just vanished. It didn't, we got two starters out of it. Which is more than we were going to get out of a single pick.

But that's said with the idea that by the time training camp rolls around, this roster is probably going to be turned over quite a bit. It's not like we just urinated it away for John Welbourne or something.

2nd, 4th, whatever. It was a shitty trade for a coach who everybody knew that he was a shitty coach to begin with, and should had been shot before he ever step foot in KC.

I wonder how any conflicts of interest would've come into play here. Obviously, he didn't know he was coming to the Chiefs, so there couldn't have been anything egregious, but it still seems like he might've been in a meeting with Belichick where they talked about the minimum trade they'd take for Cassel.
An interesting idea. Yeah it seems likely he would have a pretty good idea of the general interest level.

I think the bottom line is that the Pats had to trade Cassel. No way you seriously franchise tag a back-up QB. If they could have gotten a better pick, I'm sure they would have.

I like Cassel, he looked decent last year in the games I saw him play.

But to me he has Scott Mitchell cooties.

I should go on record on my position of Cassel trade.

I'm in the middle. I'm a fence sitter on this entire issue. I don't love him, I don't hate him.

I do know the Chiefs needed a new QB and that Thigpen isn't the answer. I expected a high draft pick to go for a QB, and this fits that bill.

Given he didn't start in college, Cassel's body hasn't taken the beating that others have, so he doesn't have injury issues. He learned for 4 seasons on a championship team from one of the top QBs in the league's history.

I'll take it.

I hope the Chiefs can leverage the existing picks to improve the LB, Oline, Dline and WR depth with the assistance of a solid Draft and FA.

I fully anticipate trades of either Gonzalez, Johnson and or Waters(less likely IMO) and with the possibility of trade downs, wouldn't be surprised to see a 2nd round pick.

I hated it like all hell, but I'm slowly warming up to it based on film I've been watching.
