Cool but useless invention(s)

No not really. I said that in a tongue in cheek manner. I do believe there will be an application from something that might originate from this, like most all inventions. The email that someone sent me about this was titles "Airplane that flies by flapping its wings" as if this would be a precursor to a revolution in Aircraft design. Given the multitude of motions that make this birds flight possible I still can't see it as a valid manned aircraft design.

I think it would become very popular the people that want to fly and don't care about speed, just being able to fly. Alot of people fly in balloons which are not that controllable. This would be great for slow flight. I think it would be a hit, if you could build one big enough to hold passengers.

It looks like (from the video) to achieve this kind of flight there has to be considerable movement of the body of the bird which would have to be the fuselage.

I don't think that adds up to comfortable passengers.

I would think it would be more for sport, fun, not actually travel. Jet skis and rocket packs are not comfortable, but are fun.
