What would Kiper be?

If Mel Kiper wasn't the self appointed genious of draft day what career would he have?

I can see him in a light green polyester suit trying to sell me a junk car at a third rate car lot.

Here's a ranking of draft prognosticators for percentage of their top 100 that actually got picked in the top 100.

Kiper doesn't exactly suck at it.

ESPN needs this RICK GOSSELIN guy.

Did he ever play the game at any level?

Rick Gosselin writes for the Dallas Morning News and IMO he's the most football-savvy sports reporter in the business. You should consider checking out his articles online. He writes good stuff.

And if he wanted to work for ESPN, he'd be there. My guess is he doesn't want to work for that joke of a station.

Nope. But Tim Grunhard has. Let's just leave it at that.

Kiper has worked in an NFL front office. He's got great contacts. He knows what's going on with the draft more so than anyone else not directly involved. I think that's a safe bet.

I just don't get "hairdue" Kiper, because the man has never played, coached, or even scouted in the NFL

Yeah, I don't know. We're talking about a league where there's a guy like Bill Belichick who never played a down of NFL football who's a "genius", and then on the other end you have Matt Millen, who was a good player... and as a GM, well it speaks for itself. I'm not a huge Kiper fan but he doesn't seem any less knowledgable than some of these guys who are actually making the picks.

Kiper is okay by me. He scores a solid 70 on the unintentionaly comedy scale. I'd rather watch someone that is passionate about what they do and has some personality quirks than another ex-jock who's opinion isn't any better informed than the average fans.
