I would wear rubber boots and a shoulder length glove.

Wear the khakis and polo. Bring a pair of jeans and workshirt with you (leave in the car). If they want you to do some welding after the written exam you can change if time allows.

You could wear a dress. You know, just to show them your not prejudice against transvestites.

If you can't weld in a tuxedo, you don't deserve the position. Rent a black and white from the Men's Warehouse and TAKE YOUR JOB!

In this case I would wear khaki's, boots, polo tucked in with belt. Keeping jeans & t shirt in the car would be a good idea. Obviously the important part is to be a good interview and prove yourself to them.
You can research them here with reviews by their own employees http://www.indeed.com/jobs?q=Union+Pacific+&l= Good luck. |

I would research any company I would work at. I want to hear the good and the bad and wasn't trying to steer you away from the job, but its better to understand the downsides of the job before doing it. Typical posters are disgruntled employees, who you can learn from, learn not to think the way they do and if the job is for you.
The job sounds pretty fun, and pay is decent. The downsides are they appear to have downgraded some engineers down to conductors, long/odd hours & weekends, like any job going to be assholes there. If you have an open schedule and your family/friends can deal with the odd hours/weekends part I would say it sounds like a pretty cool job! |

You got a point. It's usually the pissed off people that actually take the time to do something like that.
