Mock Me, Mock Me Hard!!!

2009 Mock NFL Draft: Updated 25 September 08

As we have seen in recent years, underclassmen will likely dominate the 2009 NFL Draft. If you see (JR) it means the prospects will be juniors for the 2009 NFL Draft. This draft will be very weak at quarterback and receiver, but should be incredibly strong at linebacker, tight end and offensive tackle. The order is based off our NFL Power rankings.

2009 NFL Mock Draft
TeamPos PlayerComments:
1QB, Mathew Stafford, Georgia (JR)If the strong armed Stafford comes out early he will likely be the first QB taken. Is Trent Green really starting for the Rams?
2LB, Rey Maualuga, USC They won't draft another receiver, but instead will upgrade their defense. Big, fast linebackers are hard to find. Rey might have been a top ten pick if he would have entered the 2008 NFL Draft.
3OT, Andre Smith, Alabama (JR)Smith is huge at 6' 4" 330 pounds, slides his thick legs very well and plays with great balance and power. Might end up at guard.
4WR, Michael Crabtree, Texas Tech (Soph)
The top receiver in the nation is a draft eligible sophomore. He is even good enough to be the first over all pick. A nice target for QB JaMarcus Russell.
5RB, Knowshon Moreno, Georgia (Soph)Moreno is a draft eligible sophomore and the best running back in the nation, hands down.
6OT, Eugene Monroe, VirginiaWow three OTs taken in the top ten. Monroe (6' 5" 315 lbs) is just as talented as teammate Brandon Albert who was drafted 15th over all by the KC Chiefs.
7LB, James
Laurinaitis,Ohio State
Parcells loves to draft linebackers. Laurinaitis won the Butkis Award in 2007 and could have been a top ten pick if he would have entered the 2008 NFL Draft.
8OT, Michael Oher, Ole MissOher is very athletic, has nice size (6' 6" 320 lbs) and plays with a chip on his shoulder. Young, talented QB Matt Ryan needs protection.
9CB, Vontae Davis, Illinois (JR)The younger brother of 49er TE Vernon Davis. He (Davis) has as much talent as any DB in the nation, has decent size (5' 11" 188 lbs) and runs a 4.35 forty.
10
CB, Malcolm Jenkins, Ohio State
I was surprised Jenkins didn't enter the 2008 NFL Draft, where he would have been a top 20 selection. Jenkins is the top rated cornerback entering the 2008 season.
11LB, Brian Cushing, USCHe fought injuries last year, but as a soph recorded 57 tackles and 13.5 tackles for loss. The Jags get a potential pro bowl linebacker with nice size (6' 3" 245 lbs). Also very good in pass coverage.
12QB, Curtis Painter, Purdue The 6' 3" 224 pound quarterback has legitimate NFL potential. The Bears haven't drafted a quarterback since 2005, when they drafted Kyle Orton in the 4th round.
13DE, Michael Johnson, Georgia Tech Not huge at 6' 6" 255 pounds, but he is very explosive coming off the edge. Almost entered the 2008 NFL Draft where he was graded as a 3rd rounder despite missing most of the season with injuries.
14LB, Brandon Spikes, Florida (JR)Spikes hits like a ton of bricks and has nice size at 6' 3" 240 lbs. He recorded 16 tackles for loss and 7 pass break-ups in 2007.
15WR, Darrius Heyward-Bey, Maryland (JR) Seattle doesn't have a receiver that can draw a double team, enter Heyward-Bey. Big (6' 3" 206), fast (4.34)and great hands.

16RB, Chris (Beenie) Wells, Ohio State (JR)Wells (6' 1" 225 lbs/ 4.46 speed) has all the talent in the world and will rise up the boards again once he gets healthy. A needed relief for Frank Gore.
17WR, Jeremy Maclin, Missouri (soph)An eligible soph, if he comes out early he will be a hot commodity. Maclin (6' 1" 200), exploded for a team high 1,055 receiving yards last season. Blazing fast, Maclin ran a 4.32 this spring.
18DE/OLB Antonio Coleman, Auburn (JR)Coleman is a pass rushing terror, after only three games into the 2008 season he already has 4 sacks and 5 tackles for a loss.
19
LB, Aaron Curry, Wake Forest
A very talented, relatively unknown linebacker with nice size (6' 3" 247 lbs). Curry recorded 13.5 tackles for loss in 2007.
Washington
20DE, George Selvie, South Florida (JR)Selvie is a pass rushing terror, constant double teams this year, but in 2007 Selvie led the nation in tackles for loss with an amazing 31.5 and an additional 14.5 sacks.
Philly
21FS, William Moore, Missouri From Panthers: Moore is the epitome of a ball hawk, recording 8 interceptions in 2007 which was tops in the country. He is also a big time hitter with nice size at 6' 1" 215 lbs.
Chargers
22CB, Darius Butler, ConnecticutButler is a supreme talent and will give the Chargers some depth at the corner position.
Green
Bay
23CB, Alphonso Smith, Wake ForestThis little ball hawk is an excellent cover corner. Al Harris suffered a serious injury and might not make it back 100%.
Bucs
24WR, Percy Harvin, Florida (JR) Not huge at 5' 11" 184 pounds, but Harvin is a super talent and put up huge numbers in 2007 where he ran for 764 yards and 6 TDs and also caught 59 passes for 858 yards and 4 TDs.
Patriots
25WR, Brian Robiskie, Ohio StateRobiskie should be one of the top senior receivers available for the 2009 NFL Draft. He is the son of former NFL player and current coach Terry Robiskie and had 55 receptions for 935 yards and 11 TDs in 2007.
Steelers
26OT, Fenuki Tupou, OregonTupou is an under rated tackle with nice size (6' 5" 328 lbs). He held his own against South Florida's George Selvie in the Sun Bowl.

Titans
27DE/OLB Everette Brown, Florida State (JR)Brown is in the mold of the Cowboys DeMarcus Ware. He is off to a good start in 2008 with 2 sacks and 4 tackle for losses (TFL) after only three games.
Philly
28TE, Brandon Pettigrew, OK State (JR)2009 might be considered the year of the tight if a couple talented juniors declare. At 6' 5" 260 pounds Pettigrew is a complete tight end.
Buffalo
29 TE Travis Beckum, WisconsinBeckum reminds me of the 49ers Vernon Davis. He (Beckum) is more of a speedy H-back at 6' 4" 235 lbs, but his speed will really stretch the field.
Giants
30 OT Jamon Meridith, South CarolinaMeridith (6' 5" 305 lbs) came out of no where to be one of the top offensive lineman entering the 2009 season. He seems to get better each game under Steve Spurriers tutelage.
Broncos
31DT, Peria Jerry, Ole MissThe Broncos still need help on defense and Jerry (6' 2" 292 lbs) is a stud. After getting surgery in week one, he only missed one full game and has already recorded 4.5 tackles for loss.
Dallas
32OG, George (Duke) Robinson, Oklahoma (JR)A massive (6' 4" 330 lbs), athletic offensive lineman that can easily start at left guard for Dallas. The question is, will Robinson fall this far or will Dallas have to trade up to get him?

The only upside to this is that Andre Smith at left tackle and Albert at guard would be a scary good OL for many many years.

yep. I'd either take crabtree or the best passrushing DE (so we can put hali back in his best position).

you do NOT draft a guard in the first round. period. end of sentence, end of story.

let's face it though. guard to tackle is the new safety to cornerback.
Good thing we drafted a tackle then, ain't it.

That's what i've been saying. Disregard the guard talk. He's more polished than Oher and is a legit tackle prospect.

indeed.

which is why I really don't want a tackle. let albert develop and get a QB if at all possible, a DE, or crabtree.

I wouldn't be unhappy with trading down a few slots and getting maualaga

Andre Smith in no way shape or form ends up as a guard, but this mock is pretty much the worst scenario that could happen.

Crabtree I suspect won't have a top 5 grade on him due to his workouts.

I agree with you on that. 5 to 15 is Maualaga's range.

If we aren't taking a QB it has to be a DE simple as that.
