News How many of you still receive a paper copy of the news? - Page 2

I read a headline today saying the KC Star had a bunch of layoffs - and was wondering how the industry may be changing. I realize this poll has been done before, but how many of you still receive the newspaper every day, or just Sunday?

If I had infinite money, and an incinerator, I would probably get the KC Star just to have the Sports section laying around on Saturdays and Sundays.

As it is, the last time I had a subscription most of the papers went unread and just created piles of excess paper to dispose of. And of course there is the issue of it being a liberal rag for bed-wetting, bleeding-heart liberals.

Yeah, it's a habit I've tried to break but I like reading the print vs online sites.

I used too. That was my sole purpose for the paper. Shitter reading material. Now my cell phone takes care of that function as well. The days of everyone in the office knowing what you were ready to do are over.

They have no choice, someone else will offer the content and get revenue from ads. Printed media is dying, the internet is the future.

It's not easy to make revenue off Internet ads. People should have to pay a subscription to read stories on the Web site.

There is absolutely nothing newspapers can do to survive in an era of 24-hour news cycles. Most of what's printed at sunrise is old news by noon and completely irrelevant by sundown. It's just a slow, miserable, inevitable death until they all go exclusively to an online format. MAYBE printing a Sunday edition, but that's it.

No one is going to pay for that subscription, not when they can get their news for free on thousands of other sites.

Google has proven that you can make literally millions off of online advertising. It's all about targeting.

Newspapers that require online subscription will never survive without eventually going free anyway.

This was the first I'd heard. Of course, I worked out in the cold and ignored my cell-phone most the day and then went to a city council meeting tonight. Talked to Jeff Grisamore at 7:00ish and he didn't mention it. Strange.
