So does anyone have a list of Pioli's Round 2 draft picks?

Just curious to see how he's done in the second round previously.

I know that David Givens was a great find at 7 in 2002.

I'm not sure what Pioli's history in NE has to do with what he may or may not do here.

We're talking about two situations that are polar opposites.

In New England, he never really had glaring needs to address, and could take some chances he may not have normally taken. Plus, these 2nd round picks he had were very late 2nds.

In KC, he has a roster full of holes, and early picks in each round.

Eh, look at any team's draft history and they will have some hits and misses just like the Pats had.

And for the Chiefs during 2002 -2008:

Eddie Freeman, Kawika Mitchell, Junior Siavii, Kris Wilson, Bernard Pollard, Turk McBride & Brandon Flowers.

We all have tendencies. Just curious. And yes, it's pretty obvious the two franchises are VERY different.

meh, 50/50.

A couple good, a couple not so much. The Marquise Hill thing throws a wrench in it because we'll never know about him. Not their fault.

I don't completely buy this idea that the Patriots never had holes to fill. That roster was a mess in 2000. Full of overpaid deadweight, way over the cap, and after 3 disastrous drafts by Bobby Grier. After the 5-11 season they signed something like 17 mid level FA's just to increase the talent level and provide depth. They never dreamed they would win a SB with it in 2001. Then they did a remarkable job totally revamping the roster by 2003 and a much more talented and younger team won the SBs in 2003 and 2004. But in 2000 they were a bad team.

I don't think anybody said they NEVER had holes to fill.

They've both talked about it ad nauseum. Shared veto power. Usually they agreed on a guy, but if EITHER one didnt' like a guy for whatever reason, they wouldn't get him. But absolute, final say over all football operations is Belichick's.

No. Belichick is in complete charge of all football operations.

Picture two colleagues who are on the same page 98% of the time working to build a team together. Technically, one reports to the other, but they're in agreement so much that it hardly matters. During the 5% of disagreement, if it's over GETTING a new player (draft/FA), then EITHER can veto the acquisition.

That's about what it was.

Deion Branch was an excellent selection. Eugene Wilson was very good for 3-4 years, then fell off a cliff. Whatley looks like he'll work out.

Johnson and Jackson were busts, and Hill was heading that way before he died in an unfortuante accident.

Eh. I think it would be oversimplifying things to call Pioli the "talent finder". BB is VERY involved in that too.

Givens and Cassell was 7th round home runs. I think LeKevin Smith -- our backup DL -- was a 7th too and he's been very solid in that role. Not a starter, but if you can find a guy that sticks and does a serviceable job for 3-4 years with a 7th round pick, you've done very well.

I think we had a ST stud for a couple years out of the 7th too. Cant' remember his name.

Not true. in 2000 or 2001, the Pats were called one of the least talented teams in the NFL by some sportswriter. I still can't believe we won a SB with that '01 roster.
