Any Topsy-Turvey Planter users here?

Has anyones used these Topsey-Turvey planters? I was thinking about getting some to grow some 'Maters in. Are they worth it or are they junk?

Honestly, I have no idea. I would guess that she would water once a day and then again if necessary.

You really should water them all the friggin' time. Dry roots are death to a plant that needs roots. So, at least twice a day, if not more. In fact, you should probably invest in one of those wacky glass-globe-on-a-glass-tube things that provides a continuous water supply to the thirsty, little, tomato plant or hire a Russian exchange student to stand over your tomato plants with a garden hose and a barometer. Preferably one who is female, young, nubile, blond and looks nice in a bikini.

Your water and lotion bills will go out of sight, but your tomato savings should even things out a bit.

Just sucks though cause they are only the smaller cherry type tomatoes. I want a plant with some big fat ****ers as well.
Don't limit yourself to the "container" varieties in pots.

Anything will grow in a container if you fertilize and water enough. Buy a few big whiskey barrels or clay pots and plant any beefy tomato you want.

Skip Towne posted this same question last year and I posted that I'd never use a topsy turvy thingy even if it was the only option. [Insert tree hugger justification here.]

I've done some research, and it appears this whole fad is getting out of hand.

According to the International Upside Down Tomato Growers Association, once your upside-down otamots are fully ripe, you're supposed to jam them up your ass. They say it's fun, but I'll bet it isn't.

Nein.

Horrid idea.

Russian women are better lawyers than any inmate, better bull$#itters than any car salesman, and more manipulative than Carl Peterson.

On top of that they tend to be attractive as hell.

Nein.

Just turn your ****ing plant upside down and call it a day...

Yeah they are worth it, my grandma has probably 10 of them, and grows his maters in them. They are legit, I have no experience other than helping my granpdpa with his, and he loves his.

Tried them out here in AZ for a couple of years and there's an assortment of problems...vines do grow up toward sun...and once you've got the weight of the tomatoes, the vines buckle and pinch...and out here the sun starts the bake the plastic outside, so I've had to wrap in burlap...pain in butt...the only thing I would grow would be spices and "stuff".

got 4 of them last year. mostly, worked great. watered them twice a day. wind did a little damage, but not too bad.

my only problem was after the summer when i tried to empty the dirt out, they would rip up the sides very easy. if you're going to use them more than one summer, be very careful cleaning them out.

also, the $9 each was bogus last year. i got 4 of them and the total w/shipping was almost $70.

gonna try them again this year.

good luck.

If you want to experiment without investing, just plug some holes in a 5 gallon bucket. Or even cheaper with 2 liter bottles.
