Now, who's your first half MVP?

I did one of these after the 4th game to determine who everyone thought was the first quarter MVP and a lot of people apparently think the P in MVP stands for coach. We all know that the coaching and scheme changes have been monumental in fueling this turn around; I want to know who you think has been most valuable on the field.

Here's a link to the last poll, in which Houston ran away with the honors, so you can see how your vote may change or stay the same:

http://www.chiefsplanet.com/bb/poll....s&pollid=11358

I know it's hard not to go with the hot hand in these types of polls so it'll be interesting to see how votes are spread out this go 'round. Try to keep in mind that your consideration should include player performance over the past 8 games, not only the most recent weeks.

So, do you still stick with a Houston or Poe who started off at breakneck pace but cooled off over the past few weeks? Maybe go with a guy that was kind of quiet the first few weeks but really come on in the last month like a Hali or Cooper? Or maybe switch it up and go with someone that's been rock steady over the course of the season like a DJ, Berry or Charles?

Discuss.

*I wanted to try and keep the names as similar to the first poll as possible, but I'm going to add McCluster and Marcus Cooper.

I agree with the sentiment that Charles is our whole offense right now, and I think that does indeed make for a reasonable MVP argument.

But the bottom line is that our offense is mediocre and our defense is running on a historic level right now. I would have a hard time selecting an MVP from the offensive unit in that scenario.

On defense, we've got six candidates on the surface: Berry, Flowers, Hali, Houston, DJohnson, and Poe.

Berry and Flowers have been solid, but haven't been playmakers this year.

Poe has been a playmaker and helps other succeed, but has cooled off a little after a hot start. Don't get me wrong, he's playing great, but for a while he could have been a runaway MVP. He helps others succeed, too.

DJ is a very underappreciated run defender. If you watch him, he's in on an astounding number of plays, but they're not high-profile plays. He just shuts stuff down.

Houston is a five-tool player and is still on track to tie the single-season sack record.

Hali is very good at one thing in particular, and I suspect that he's a team leader and certainly sets a great example for others to build on.

My vote came down to Hali, DJohnson, or Houston, and I actually went with Hali. The guy is just relentless and he never seems to get tired. I think he helps others get sacks more than vice versa.

Poe

I doubt anyone on defense would be as effective if he wasn't collapsing the pocket so effectively.

Looking into this season's schedule before the start of camp, I thought at best with a little luck bouncing our way we'd be 2-2 against the NFCE. No one thought the NFCE was going to be as shitty as it has been. Dallas, NYG, Philly, Skins are all playing like shit. I don't think you should be allowed to hold the Chiefs against that part. You can make the argument the Chiefs got 2 easier games because of where they finished in the standings last season. Other than those 2 games, the Chiefs don't dictate who they're going to play/nor do they have control on how good/bad that team's gonna play.

Plus Denver has played almost identically the same schedule as we have so far and no one gives them the "easy schedule" BS. I guess that's because they put style and pretty toppings on their wins with the way Manning lights up the scoreboard. So what....they lost to the Colts. **** their shit we're going to beat their ass at their house.

I would make the counter argument that our offense without Charles would be one of the absolute worst in the league, whereas our defense could afford to lose any single player and still be very good.

Precisely. Say Hali wasn't on the team. Chiefs would be, what, one game worse? Two at the most?

If Charles wasn't on the roster the Chiefs might be .500.

Jamaal Charles has more touches than any other player in the National Football League. He IS our offense, and a big reason that we are 8-0. The meager amount of points this offense puts up, that the defense VALIANTLY protects have all gone through the efforts of Jamaal Charles.

Charles. I think they're a sub-500 team without him. I know that sounds crazy, but the Jacksonville game is still the only laugher they've had all season. Every other game on the schedule is in question if he's not on the field. I can't say the same for any other player on the team.

CoMo, This topic was discussed ad nauseam last night. You're obviously a card carrying, Kool Aid drinking Chiefs fan as you've succinctly summed up the views of your fellow fans in 3 brief paragraphs. (it took the rest of them 150+ posts)
Congratulations for your team's current 8-0 record.

While Poe is a good choice, the things Houston does in terms of rushing the passer AND coverage AND playing the run, he's been exceptional at all 3. If he wasn't doing that so much, he might have even more gaudy stats.
