Xavier Williams not coming back

Yes, I'm gonna start a thread about it. No, **** a "random FA news" megathread. You can have one if you want, but I hope to see lots of people start individual threads for each Chiefs FA news bit that comes up. Even if it's small.

Tyeler Davison from the Falcons got 3/$12M, and plays a similar role (run-stuffing DT who doesn't do much on passing downs). Expect a similar market from Pennel.

Good information. It will be interesting to see what kind of contract Mike Pennel receives.

I think the Chiefs can sign Mike for a little less than the contract that Tyeler Davison received.

Tyeler was a 5th round pick for the New Orleans Saints. He played 4 years for Saints and then then last year signed a 1 year deal and played for the Atlanta Falcons. He is 27 years old and is 6-2, 309 and has been a starter for 4 of his 5 years in the NFL.

Mike wasn't drafted. He has played for 3 NFL teams and has been on the roster for 1 more. Last year he also made the rounds and tried out for several other NFL teams that did not sign him. He is 1 year older than Davison at 28 and will be 29 in May. He is a bigger man at 6-4, 330. He has limited starts in his NFL career. I think Mike Pennel is a really good fit for Kansas City but maybe not for some NFL teams. The Chiefs coaches knew how to use him to get his maximum effort. He has local ties to the Topeka, Kansas area and is on a Super Bowl winning team.

I'm hoping Chiefs can sign Mike for a 3 year deal for less than $10 M.

We shall see.

I'm not too surprised by this, especially after Saunders seemed to progress. I'm hoping we get to keep Pennel, too.

To be fair to Xavier Williams, his ankle injury really gave him little chance in the 2019 season. In the 2018 season for the Chiefs, he had 47 tackles and 2.5 sacks and only played 36% of the snap counts.

Good luck to Xavier and hope he has several more seasons in the NFL.

Rough year with injuries and then hardly saw field late in the year. No surprise here.
