My guess is that if it is between two players particularly 2 WR's then Mahomes would be given a say in it but control goes to Veach and the coaching staff.

Probably no set rules on that exactly.

Let him get his ass beat for the first 6-8 games of the season, and hopefully that means Pacheco is a bit more fresh come playoff time.

And another reason why Perine might be a darkhorse candidate to make it - how much of a workload do they want to give Jet the first two months of the season? Could be a play to keep him fresh, too.

As I recall it was not an ask for suggestions. They showed him some video and he liked what he saw. I dont think Mahomes comment was the ultimate deciding factor. It was more a lets let Pat see who we are thinking about. It was a respect thing vs Veach thinking Mahomes was suddenly an NFL Draft GEEK. I do think if Mahomes had reacted negative that may have had an a real impact just because its a respect issue.
