Danny Parkins-‏Hearing a couple of very interesting pieces of potential Chiefs news

Danny Parkins ‏@DannyParkins 2m

I'm hearing Dexter McCluster is unhappy he's not on the return team. #Chiefs looking at all options, including trade.

Shrugs. I wanted Cleveland to grab him at 6, and I don't think that many teams would of blinked or been OH MY GOSH had the Chiefs grabbed him.

I think he has better quick twitch moves, short-field speed, and ability to make people miss than he gets credit for. He just hasn't done it on the NFL level, and I think a lot of that is his instincts and vision have been lackluster (which may be uncoachable), but I also don't think the coaches have used him well.

I want to see him in a position to fight for his job on a very short leash. I'd rather see that early in the season than just cutting him before the season starts.
He's been in the league, what 4 years? Yeah, he may not have been on or in the perfect situation, but that shot happens to guys everyday in the league.

He's had more than enough chances to show that at the NFL level, he just hasn't.

Given how bad the draft class is, sure. I just don't understand the idea of getting riled up that the Chiefs chose Fisher over a slot receiver. Both are positions that are becoming increasingly important that in most classes don't belong anywhere near the top 5 or 10.

I don't recall him being that injury prone. I remember him not caring that one year when he was pissed about his contract.

And about the slot thing. I think that is over blown.

I think you think of a slot guy as someone who his more of an over the middle guy, or a solid route runner with good hands but not fast.

Tavon will play some outside.

His problem stems from the fact that he was way overdrafted. There were many excellent choices that could have been made, from Daryl Washington to Sean Lee to Jimmy Graham to Gronk and so on.

If he were a 5th rounder like Jacquizz Rogers, no one would care.

Dunta nearly killed desean.

Slot guys will be in traffic, it's a given. Slot wrs are normally smaller guys who can't beat press coverage if you're going with a slot wr, think victor Cruz

Oh, sorry, I wasn't commenting on Fisher VS Tavon, or about people being riled, I was just pointing to the logistical implications of had they drafted him, that I wouldn't of been like OMG. I would of looked at it what it was.

Jon Baldwin had been a huge bust, Bowe is solid and after that you have really nothing.

The spark a guy like that can provide to your offense is unquestioned.

Yeah he was overdraft end, but theses skills and times etc haven't transitioned into the NFL either.

He's a decent player, but he just isn't someone that ill get too upset over if he's gone.

I don't think anybody had a shot in hell at succeeding last year under the abortion of an offensive coaching staff we had. I thought McCluster started to show flashes of his potential with Orton at QB. Enough flashes for me to see what he can do under a new coaching staff and an offense that can actually spread the defense out a little bit. I want to see him develop as a receiver instead of what I thought was a completely dumb decision by Haley two years ago to take him out of the slot and into a RB position.

Again, I'm tired of the gimmicks and don't believe he's shown anything to warrant any free passes. He has to earn his job, but I'd like to see him just get a few shots in the right position, with a good offensive coach, behind a semi-competent QB before closing the book.

I'm at a point where I won't be disappointed if he's gone. Just want to see one more shot to see what an innovative guy like Reid can do with him.

Sure.

But those offensive coaches etc have been watching him everyday for months and now this is coming out.

Like DJ said, I don't think he has a skill that really warrants that shot over a guy like Hemingway who seems to fit better in that role.

He doesn't play "fast" because he's too concerned about ball protection and getting his ass kicked.

At this point, I'd rather see what they've got in Jenkins than dexter

Well, let's be clear about roles here. Hemmingway is a possession slot receiver like Stokley. He's a guy who won't drop balls and can make those tough chain-moving catches. Jenkins is a speed guy who stretches the field and outruns his man before catching the ball. I see these guys contributing in different ways depending on the personnel grouping.

Wylie and McCluster are your slot underneath guys. These are guys who slip underneath the coverage, then get the ball in space where they can use their short-field quickness to get some YAC. Reason I brought up Orton is it was the first time I saw a QB create space for an underneath guy. Daboll's cluster **** offense, the entire short middle was jam-packed. But more than anything, even if McCluster is an okay RB at best, it's still a wrinkle that allows you to shift him around a lot. And I think Reid/Pederson can take advantage of that in ways our vanilla coaches in the past could not.
