Danny Parkins-‏Hearing a couple of very interesting pieces of potential Chiefs news

Danny Parkins ‏@DannyParkins 2m

I'm hearing Dexter McCluster is unhappy he's not on the return team. #Chiefs looking at all options, including trade.

An opinion, not fact. Additionally, the Pro Bowl selection is flawed (Cassel/London Fletcher) and not exactly great at selecting worthy players.

Additionally, it is truly determined by your personnel and philosophies utilized for the player. Tavon Austin could possibly be the best thing since sliced bread if playing for the Patriots (not that he can't/won't have a fine career/be awesome/be a bust with the Rams).

He's Randall Cobb on ROIDs. You watch he will be even better than Randall in a yr or two if not sooner. Would you consider Cobb a 1st rounder now?

OK
I'd like to do an over/under bet

My under number is 950 receiving yards 6 receiving touchdowns so you would be betting over those numbers.

I will bet all of my casino cash

Agree?

It's a fact backed by the idea that slot receivers never go this high. The closest comparison you have is Reggie Bush, but Bush was picked #1 because he's also dangerous running the ball and can be moved around a bit.

It's not that he won't be dangerous. I like the guy and would have supported a trade down. The problem with Austin is that his talent isn't one of a kind, and unlike most guys who go at 1.1, he's more of a gimmick than an every down guy. And just like Eric Fisher... you're probably going to find plenty of Tavon Austins later in the draft. In most drafts, Austin is a much lower first round pick.

I don't consider Cobb a 1.1, even in a bad draft class.

I would like to see what Reid can do with him, but if the stories are true, then I don't like what I'm hearing. Thing is, I don't think it surprises anyone. For some reason, he's always had some of that self-promotional attitude.
He doesn't have the balance he needs to be what you want him to be here.

A bump, a nudge...a hard cut - it can all bring him down. He's not quick enough to avoid contact altogether, just quick enough to avoid hard contact. He needs to have the balance that Charles has to allow himself to keep his feet and keep going.

He's a bunch of poorly fitting parts. He doesn't have the size to be a possession WR, the speed to be a downfield WR, the balance to be a jitterbug/slot WR or the hands/vision to even be a valuable 3rd down back.

He's just not a very good NFL player. He lacks 1 necessary component of pretty much every role he could possibly fill.

I suspect that as more teams utilize spread principles, their value will increase and they will be drafted in higher positions.

When this league turns into flag football, they're going to be premium.

PREMIUM BABY!!!

I think size just does matter here too in regards to Austin. Look at the knee injury thread. Lbs and DBS are just so big strong and fast that, he's going to get hit.

Being that size getting blasted, tough to take that high

Isnt he roughly the same size as Desean Jackson?

Yeah, Desean is 5-10 175, and Tavon is 5'9 174

He will be fine. Just cant be super man.

As of right now, you're right. And while Wylie is far from special, we've seen some of the quickness with ball-in-hand that we've wanted to see from McCluster.

He's gotta show really quick what he can do, and I would rather see him get just a few more games before we close the book. I think he has better quick twitch moves, short-field speed, and ability to make people miss than he gets credit for. He just hasn't done it on the NFL level, and I think a lot of that is his instincts and vision have been lackluster (which may be uncoachable), but I also don't think the coaches have used him well.

I want to see him in a position to fight for his job on a very short leash. I'd rather see that early in the season than just cutting him before the season starts.

As a first round pick, yes. As a 1.1, that's why he probably doesn't belong there.

I think it is such a tough position to evaluate because it is mental toughness and football smarts for lack of a better term for the smallest guy on the field to survive let alone flourish. I don't know how you can tell until they are on the field with the bullets flying. When Cruz gets the ball I think he's taking to the house, when dexter gets it I think he will break like a twig. It makes me cringe not because I hate like clay just because he might break in mid air.

How's that worked out for desean?

The guy isn't exactly running slot routes anymore. And even with that, say he turns out to be desean Jackson. Would you spend th first pick on that?
