This trade was a no-brainer for a team that hasn't had a Franchise QB since Warner hit a lull in 2003, was released and went to the NY Giants in 2004.

It has nothing to do with "splash" and everything to do with moving the team forward.
I get it man, trading up to get a stud WAS the right move for that team... there arent any on the market, so the only way to get one is draft him

They also have a legit defense and a new Marshall Faulk to pair him with, I still just disagree with 2 each in the second and third

Give someone like Dorsey 4 shots in those rounds and they wouldnt seem so meaningless IMO... but I'm just an interested observer, no dog in this fight and I hope it works out well in LA

My perspective is this: Two 2's? One was a "freebie" for getting rid of Bradford and if history tells us anything, one of those guys won't make it past year 3, whether he can't play or is injured, etc., so no biggie.

Two 3's? They received a 4th and 6th to pair with their 4, 5, 6 and 7th round picks so it's possible they could package up picks to jump into the 3rd round. As for next year, they'll get a 3rd round Comp Pick for Janoris Jenkins, so no biggie.

I just don't think it's that much to give up for a Franchise QB when the rest of your roster is ready to rock.

I prefer Wentz. 6'5, 235, Plus arm, great mobility. He led his team to two straight FCS championships and was a team member of five straight appearances. He played in a Pro Set and I think he's a Rothlisberger type guy.

The Bradford freebie in the second does take the worst of the sting out of it, house money

Lets see what my draft bible says about Wentz...

Pros - 6'5 235 his learning curve wont be as steep as the average FCS prospect. He operated a pro-style offense for the Bison and shows sound footwork coming out from under center with the ability to work through progressions.

His size is ideal and he shows good zip on tighter window throws with a compact delivery. A good, flexible athlete, able to slide and willing to stand in and make throws while absorbing contact, keeps his eyes up when the pocket gets muddy

Cons - There are obvious concerns with level of competition, and he lost a chunk of last season to a wrist injury. He also tends to live dangerously, throwing into traffic

Bottom Line - theres a risk, but Wentz compares favorably to the last first round FCS QB Joe Flacco

So a big, athletic pocket QB with the frame to get bigger, no Jay Cutler laser but a solid plus arm that can make every throw... sounds more like Roethlisberger, sign me up

Elite cannon arms are awesome, but I'd rather have that 6'5 245 player who can make a solid throw with two guys in his face and one hanging off his waist

Its why I'm glad Bray has been kept around for some strange reason...

Getting a pick for Case Keenum will lessen the blow as well. The Broncos reported want him but the Rams put a 1st round tender on him heading into free agency.

I could see them getting a Conditional 3rd or 4th for him, if the Broncos really want him as reported.

He played for Kubiak in Houston so it makes some sense.

If the Rams get a Joe Flacco, a guy that's been very good in the playoffs since being drafted in 2008 and they get a Super Bowl appearance or victory, the trade will have been a no brainer.

Its a huge, admirable swing for the fences

My tune is changing on it, with decent QB play this team has enough talent to make real noise, consistently giving teams like Seattle and AZ all they want

And its really the only move they had to show they were serious about bringing a winner to LA

The big if is Fisher, he certainly has his fingerprints all over that brawling style they consistently upset top teams with, dude has always brought the bullyish, nasty defense

But he is such an offensive dinosaur, probably the worst in the NFL, I hope he doesnt wreck this shiny new car

Having the extra second, getting the comp third, and honestly people keep forgetting about the 4th and 7th coming back - all of that softens the blow.

It is true, actually - the Rams have a solid all-around roster. If Wentz blows up, then they're geniuses. I think people like this trade from the Titans' side because they don't have their eggs in one basket.

If ANY of those picks turn into a great player, then they did the right thing. They got a ton of value for a pick they didn't want. It's what we all wanted the Fisher year. And the Tyson Jackson year.

It's a genius move for the Rams, because they didn't do it the night before the draft. They did it two weeks before. They are THE talk of the NFL now, during, and after the draft. Brilliant PR move.

And they also have first crack at whoever they think is the best QB on the board. If I'm a Rams fan, I acknowledge the price tag, but I still want that Ferrari.

Just a hypothetical but I wonder what the Rams would have been willing to give up for Joe Flacco in comparison to what they're giving up for Wentz or Goff because it seems the same talent level with added NFL experience.

Flacco is 31, coming off an ACL tear and may not be ready to start the season.

That seems like a Bandaid and not a long term solution for the youngest team in the NFL that will play their games in the NFL Crown Jewel of a football stadium.

Understood. It's just a relative scenario to throw out there to put the all variables in perspective IMHO. I thought Josh McNown and Jake Plummer were the next great guys if it puts my football knowledge into perspective.

I really think the situation you land into as a QB is not taken into account enough and the lions share is placed on the player. Good luck Goff (from what I've read it's going to be Goff) you've got a hell of a chance at being great.
