The Donkeys and Schadenfreude

Whenever it comes up in conversation, I always mention that my SECOND favorite team is whoever is playing the Broncos. That answer gets a variety of often hilarious responses. But in recent years, I thought that my hatred for the orange and blue had faded somewhat....since Elway's departure.

That was until yesterday....

I tuned into the last quarter of the Giants and Donks yesterday: I cannot describe the unmitigated and utterly joyful glee I felt when Eli threw the TD to Toomer. It was absolute and complete happiness. It actually felt better than our victory over Miami...okay, well, almost. Is that sick, or what?

To derive such fabulous joy and giddiness from the misery of others would seem a bit, 'unnatural'---wouldn't you say?

I suspect a Chief's win over SD this weekend, coupled with an Eagle victory over the Donks would top it--but it's hard to imagine at this point. I hope I get the opportunity to find out.

That's one of the big things I'm worried about this weekend in San Diego.

So far the way the division is shaping up (and yes I know its still kinda early but..) I think the only way we win the division is that we HAVE TO beat the Donks at Arrowhead, plain and simple. Denver is a pretty good team and as much as I hate to say it, they are gonna be in it come playoff time. San Diego I think has too hard of a schedule for Brees and Co. to make the playoffs this season. Granted they dont usually play well at Arrowhead and they have the mid-season fall out like they have in the past, Denver is still the team to beat in this division. Though I just want to win in San Diego this week. I will worry about Denver the week we play them.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

I was watching the Donkey's game yesterday alone, and I was yelling more than I yelled during Friday's game vs Miami. I scared my dog a few times.
It was one of the most exciting endings. I think I was more into it because of my extreme hatred of Denver as well. I had a big grin on my face the rest of the evening.
Interesting how many of us shared this experience...
