News How many of you still receive a paper copy of the news? - Page 3

I read a headline today saying the KC Star had a bunch of layoffs - and was wondering how the industry may be changing. I realize this poll has been done before, but how many of you still receive the newspaper every day, or just Sunday?

I think my idea would work for small newspapers. Especially in small towns where the hometown paper is the main or only news source. People get a password for the Web site when they buy a print subscription.

The big metropolitan papers need to do the same thing. It's ridiculous how people can read anything they want on Kansascity.com.

That's how they shut down the Hi-tech, which was who printed our rag. Announced it and then it was closed by the end of the week. Simply unbelievable. I hope we didn't have much, if anything to do with it.

I voted yes, but realize the paper is a small local paper, that is only available by subscribing or buying one once a week. No web.

kansascity.com tried the membership route. It flopped. They dropped it.

I'm shocked that this is even close.

I do enjoy sitting down and reading a paper, though. There's a certain nostalgia factor to it.

The newspaper industry and the public need to figure this out. People shouldn't be able to go on the Web site and read the content for free. Nobody can tell me people don't want to read newspapers. A lot of people say they don't like newspapers, but they really do like them.

Because it's a business. One way or the other, people should pay to read the content.

I didn't think it would be that close either.

However, I rarely if ever pick up the newspaper. It is too f'n big. If it was in a magazine format, where it didn't fold in or bow out, it would be much easier to handle. I also hate how the stories "continue" on another page.

That is a very myopic way of looking at it.

It's a business - it should adapt to change, and the demands of customers. If our local newspaper did not post it's news online, i'd find it elsewhere (television, radio). That is not even taking in to account that many of the stories posted online are just AP stories.
