So...Petro's new lack of access is making him cranky

I can't figure it. He's completely speaking crazy-talk on 810 right now. "Dayton Moore is on the clock"?!?! Seriously? The organization from top to bottom is 100% stocked better than the condition in which Moore found it...and he's on the clock because they haven't found a solution at second base over the last 3 years? Does Petro even know baseball? This is stupidity. Not like football...when you have a minor league system, you have to take a look at overall organization. Petro is going to become more an more intolerable if this is how he's going to be with his Chiefs pipeline drying up. Anyway...END RANT.

No. This organization was so bereft of talent that these have been significant strides.

When Moore took over, scouts were saying that the franchise was at an expansion level. In some respects, probably worse.

I think you're underestimating the level suck and utter lack of caring on the part of ownership that were present in KC for a very long time.

I'll give DM a pass for at least 2 more years, maybe 3.
Tell that to the Rays last year or the Marlins prior to that.

The Rays were horrible for years, but they kept stockpiling talent which hit at the same time making for a fantastic season. If the Royals keep bringing in an developing players (scouting and development) they could very well have a magical year in the near future too.

The Marlins have built teams, won then traded away their best players to restock their minor leagues. Those new players came up together, won and were traded away.

Unless you are NY or Boston and can buy a team, you need to develop a strong minor league system and that is what is being worked on now.

I would love to see another Royals world series this year, but since that is unlikely I will enjoy the building process. If we don't see real improvement in the next two years then DM better have a damn good reason or he should be let go.

the Rays were building for years, they didn't just come out of nowhere. People who don't understand baseball and how the minor leagues work think their turn-around was instantaneous, but do some research on how they built that team.

the Marlins made the right moves once, and pulled it together all at once to build a winner. They then had the peices to trade to get another group of great prospects (something the Royals have had few of, and the previous regime screwed them up when they did have them).

This isn't the NBA. Teams can't have one star, trade for 2 more, and win a championship.

Over the years Dayton and Pre Dayton the Royals have done both. The best result near .500. It's one or the other... stick with the youth or bring in FA's then trade. Neither has worked for the Royals in 10+ years.
It's funny people on this board have such low expectations. If the Chiefs are in the playoffs each year without winning it all they are failures, but if the Royals can compete even without the playoffs then they are moving in the right direction.

I think the only regular guest Petro really admires and respects is Jayson Stark, and for good reason. I can't wait for the day he lashes out at Bob Glauber the NFL dill-hole. That guy's annoying and I'm surprised Petro hasn't gone off on him yet.

This isn't a difficult situation to understand.

From 1993 to approximately 2005, the Royals didn't spend money. They didn't try to draft the best talent, because it was too expensive, and when the organization was lucky enough to develop a star, this player was never retained. Because of cost.

Oh yeah, the farm system and scouting were a joke and severely underfunded.

Only in the last several years has the organization been operating like a real ML franchise.

There really isn't much else to talk about. It's ridiculous not to say that the Royals are headed in the right direction. As long as the Glass family continues to provide the resources, there's no reason to think things won't continue to improve.

Its funny people on this board are so impatient when it comes to baseball.

When a team wins 5 in a row, they are destined for the world series. When a team loses 5 in a row, the front office needs to be cleaned out.

Dayton and Pre-Dayton are two completely different situations.

The Chiefs went 25 years with zero expectations. None. And that was with an owner who was alive.

E.K. wanted to win a second WS before his death. He brought in FA after FA (Davis & Davis), and it just didn't work. Then the man died and left the franchise in a trust.

When Lamar passed away, he at least had Clark to be the owner and run the franchise. Mr K tried to find somebody to take over, but never found the right guy. EK's family didn't want to deal with the hassle of ownership.

It's been sad watching this franchise wither on the vine.

Petro was the one that should have been embarassed, not Gottlieb. If you consider making an ass out of yourself, "pwning someone", then I guess Petro pwned Gottlieb. If he hasn't already done it, Petro owes Doug an apology for being a complete prick.

What I heard him say is "this is not a fire Dayton Moore campaign". But he is laying it at the feet of Moore for not upping another $4 mil for a much needed player while at the same time signing Gload to a 2 year extension and re-signing German.

And he has a point. If it is one thing Petro knows, it is baseball.
