Theoretical question

O.k. let's say the earth is about to die and people need to colonize a new planet to survive. The new planet is identical to Earth with all the same resources. let's say the people are dealing with the technology of today other than the transport ships they built to take them to this other planet. All they can take to the new planet is people there isn't any room for anything else. However they do possess the knowledge to recreate the technology they once had. Let's assume everyone from earth makes it to the new planet. How long does it take their civilization to evolve. How long before the first factory is created? How long before the first car is produced? The first computer? The internet?

I'd much rather be chained to RedNFiesty and Chiefs QT! In fact I think I'm getting aroused just thinking about it

What about the infrastructure. Roads? At first they wouldn't need them so would they slowly build roads and adapt them as the need grew or would they start small and constantly adapt them to support their needs? There are a lot of interesting scenarios to consider.

After shelter, I would imagine that power generation would be next.

I would let everybody spend a night at Holiday Inn Express before boarding the ships. That way when they arrive the civilization will be up and running in a few days.

RedNFiesty is indeed a QT, but I have not seen Chiefs QT before to my knowledge. Is her name fitting?

So are we assuming they have the same wildlife/crops/raw materials that we do? If the indigenous life were different that would have huge implications for medicine, crops, livestock, even clothing. I imagine it would look a lot different.

What would you guess the first generator would be derived of and what would you guess would fuel it?

Exact same as Earth hell we can even say the geography is identical and everyone goes to the same place they are currently at on earth just for conversations sake.

Probably a good water wheel, then maybe a wood-fired steam generator.

Let's say you can't take any guys or weapons. Would high tech societies like ours fold and primitive societies take over the world? Or could we survive long enough to advance our technology. What if there wasn't an ocean between us and they tried to overtake us forcefully. Obviously by shear numbers we would overtake them but what if the numbers were even? Would our technical knowledge be enough to overcome our other disadvantages?
