What is your best Bargain?

I vowed a while back to never pay full price for anything. I love to haggle. I will always ask for a discount. I am never rude or unreasonable. I just know that there is always a better price available.

Today:
I purchased a brand new 30 in Electrolux Gas Wave Range for $1000 dollars with free delivery and hook-up from Best Buy. It was a clearance item that was originally priced at $2399 clearance price was $1499. I was able to talk them down $499. Best Price I found was $1999 on-line.

What is yours?

I figure we could help each other out with tips.

Where does one find these auctions?

I'd say never getting married is the real bargain. Spending money on condoms will also save you in the neighborhood of six figures.

I bought 69 12'x8" pine car siding(tongue and groove) for $.50/board this spring.....69, 12' boards for around $38, and had a $30 gift card.

I ran short on my cabin project and bought about 25 more from the local lumber yard for $14 each.

Yeah, some people are annoyingly obsessive about it. I did a remodeling project for a gal about 10 years ago, and when her stepdad and I went to go pick up the drywall, he started trying to haggle with the guy at the Menard's lumber desk. Back then the stuff was less than $3/sheet, it was freaking embarrassing.

I learned by watching my dad when I was young, and trial and error.

I never get overly interested in the item, when the rubber meets the road, I always ask for something extra or taken off.

Earlier in the year, I made a consultant throw in free batteries for the radios my organization purchased. He said he had never been asked for such a thing, appeared insulted...but he handed over free batteries to close the deal after I randomly started naming other companies that sold similar products.

We bought a bed this year, and I screwed them down $500 on the price and got 2 $100 pillows thrown in to close the deal.

The worst thing that can happen by asking for something is they say no. Sometimes I'm dug in enough that I'll walk away from the deal and that is the key. "I'll buy this house if you install 10 new windows and include it for this price" and be willing to walk away if they don't.
