Cities to move to...

So I've lived in MO all my life and the wife and I are contemplating moving next year outside of the state...just wanted to get some thoughts from those who have lived elsewhere besides KCMO or thought about it too.

I'm kinda open to anywhere but I've had a few people tell me that out west is the way to go...heard Boulder, Salt Lake City, and Reno are all nice. Actually had a buddy tell me Wisconsin (Madison specifically) is nice too.

So if any of you were going to move elsewhere where would you suggest?

Really? I've been to BR many times, a couple for a week at a time. I love BR. You must not be visiting the right places.

Yeah,Probably not. I was there for work about 6 years ago. Didnt really get to go out on my own accord and tour the town on my own.

I saw a news segment the other day where Forbes had named a "coolest cities" list. The news talkers (CNN, I think) were reacting to it, and it was hilarious. You could tell they were east coasters, because they looked at the list below, and they only discussed New York, Washington, and Miami, and threw in Los Angeles as a "yeah, of course they're going to be on there". They then suggested that perhaps Charleston and Savannah should be added to the list.

I'm kind of glad that the East Coast people like where they live, because I'm glad to leave them there and not have them here.

Yeah, I've spent most of my time there with a TV guy who's been in the market for 25 years.

Seeing as how most accidents happen within ten miles of your house, I'd say moving anywhere is a step in the right direction.

I lived in Spokane, WA back in the early nineties. I would still be there but for a job oppertunity that brought me back to MO. My wife's parents are getting up in age and need assistance now and then so I am some what anchored here right now. Once they have passed I can see myself back in Spokane.

Lots of things to consider. First, can you get a job there or are you retired? Is weather high on your list? What about having access to healthcare if you are older, things to do or do you value land and space?

I couldn't get out of Spokane fast enough. Not a lot to offer IMO. Just a blah feeling and mediocre kind of town. Granted, I was going to school there with a very limited income, but I had no desire to stay even though I had multiple job offers before graduation.

Move to a state that does NOT have a state income tax. If I made the same money and lived in Texas or Florida, it be like getting a $5000 a year raise.

No offense to my CP bretheren, but moving is the sort of decision that should be based on more than strangers' advice. There's been some decent info given in this thread, but just because I or another poster loves a city is no guarantee that you would too.

Rank the factors that are important to you in a place to live (weather, cost of living, proximity to family, job market, etc) and see if you can find a city that has the best combination. As Rain Man's "coolest cities" ranking indicates, there are city rankings for just about anything. Leverage those to help you in your decision.

31, in a field where getting a job shouldn't be too hard, and land & space isn't exactly a priority.

Right I wouldn't base my decision off of anything here...just looking for people's experiences in other places...all the info I can get helps in one way or another.
