Should the Texans have drafted Bortles instead of Clowney?

Figured I'd try my luck at one of these threads again.

Well, should they have?

2014 - Bortles (?)
2013 - (none)
2012 - Luck, Wilson, maybe Foles
2011 - Newton, Dalton
2010 - Bradford
2009 - Stafford
2008 - Ryan, Flacco
2007 - (none)
2006 - Cutler
2005 - Alex Smith, Aaron Rodgers

So in the last 10 drafts we have about 13 guys out of a total of 54 QBs drafted in the first 3 rounds who have stuck around or look like they will be able to stick around as starters.

It's no wonder a third of the league is QB-poor, because history tells us there is usually about 1 guy in each draft who will make it. Injuries or just not being good enough will claim the rest.

It's a sucker bet, but unless you convert one you can't realistically expect to win anything.

In hindsight, yes, it looks like they should have taken Bortles. At the time of the draft, I understand why it would have been difficult to pass on a freak like Clowney.

For a second there, I thought you were talking about A. Smith.

Nonsense, you're talking about the extreme ends of the spectrum. Manning & Brady aren't typical QBs, they're HOFers. We're talking Blake Bortles here.

Besides, even Matt Cassel won 11 games for 2008 Patriots did he not?

As much as I like Clowney, in today's flag-football NFL, you're better off trying to get the next glory-boy quarterback who can draw favorable ref treatment than trying to build a dominant defense and settling for a game-manager QB.

No.

they should of done one of two things.

they should of moved UP one spot to grab Teddy.

Clowney and TEDDY?

Or drafted Jimmy grappalo.

I would of still taken Clowney.

he has proven to be unblockable.
