The free agents we lost.

The Chiefs lost eight starters (plus Quentin Demps) last offseason, and they were signed to over a combined $100 million in new contracts. Holy shit.

We gained several free agents this past season, and I don't know for how much, but I don't think it was for more than a combined $15m (Mays and Walker making up basically all of that).

How've they fared?
  • OT Brandon Albert, Dolphins -- has been excellent on the blind side in Miami
  • DE Tyson Jackson, Falcons -- yeah.
  • OG Jon Asamoah, Falcons -- he's been "okay"
  • OG Geoff Schwartz, Giants -- IR
  • WR Dexter McCluster, Titans -- "hasn't panned out to date," playing only 28% of snaps
  • CB Brandon Flowers, Chargers -- one of Chargers' best defenders, has struggled with injuries
  • S Kendrick Lewis, Texans -- has been considered a generally positive impact on the Texans' secondary, almost always on the field
  • ILB Akeem Jordan, Redskins -- IR
  • S Quentin Demps, Giants -- now their starting FS
  • K Ryan Succop, Titans -- 11/13 with a long of 47 yards

This.
Flowers was hurt to the point where you couldn't count on him. Had he agreed to play for what SD signed him, KC would have kept him.

Thus taking money from the potential of landing Justin Houston long term. Choosing one over the other isn't a tough decision.

Would be interesting, but would a team appreciate Bowe's efforts enough to trade for him and take on his bloated base salaries (avr 10 mil per yr)?

Justin plays a larger role on the outcome of a game. Whoever trades for Bowe will only be responsible for the base salary. The remainder of the prorated signing bonus will be the Chiefs responsibility to structure under our cap.

Over the cap.com shows Bowe as having a 10.75M base salary and counting $14M against the cap next year. Trading him pre June 1 would save the Chiefs $5M next season. Trading him post June 1 would divide the prorated bonus of $9M over two seasons.

Thanks, but yes.. I am aware of the cap situation involved in this.

Was just saying... would teams be interested enough in what Bowe brings to pay him that much base salary as well as lose a good pick?

Nobody traded for Vincent Jackson.......so no. And it's not because Bowe sucks....it has everything to do with his cap hit.

Dont have a problem with any of those losses, and wont have a problem with our widely presumed losses next year, either.

Not unless KC can convince Bowe's agent to make a sign and trade deal. Even a mid round pick would be an advantage to KC if we could pick up a respectable OG to the line with it.

Personally, I really hope we can restructure Bowe, he's a perfect #2.

There are plenty of others we can dump to save some money.

Why is this thread relevant at this point of the season and point in time after this was discussed at great length at the beginning of the season?
