Mahomes to undergo surgery - Rapoport

Source: #Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes will undergo surgery tomorrow to repair a torn plantar plate in his foot, also known as turf toe. The rehab will be several months, but he’s expected to make a full recovery. Noted foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson will perform the procedure.

Most NFL players get it and they're out for 2-4 weeks but don't need surgery. He played though it but did need surgery. Must have been something kind of unusual.
Like any other ligament issue, it could be a tear rather than a strain. I've strained that ligament and it hurts like hell for about a month. If he tore his, surgery would be necessary, though.

Probably most of the offseason before training camp will be virtual again so he won’t miss much other than those non-team affiliated workouts organized by the players (which the NFL/NFLPA banned for most of last offseason as well).

“Turf toe sounds harmless right? What’s the big deal? But for many professional athletes, turf toe has been a career ender. Remember PrimeTime Deion Sanders? Maybe the greatest cornerback to have ever played football. It was 1998 and the Dallas Cowboys were dominant in the first half of the season, especially Deion Sanders. Jerry Jones, the Cowboys owner, picks up the phone and calls Deion’s agent to negotiate a price that will make Deion Sanders a Cowboy for life. As the story goes, both sides quickly settled on a $20M signing bonus. Jerry wanted to pay a $9M salary, but Deion wanted $10M per year. Jerry wouldn’t acquiesce, so Deion chose to play out the rest of the season without signing the contract in expectation of a larger free-agent contract at the end of next season. But then, in the heat of the Arizona sun while playing the Cardinals, Deion suffered THE injury, Turf Toe. The injury caused him to miss most of the current season and restricted him from ever returning to the player he was, and after the end of the following season, Jerry Jones and the Cowboys released Deion Sanders. PrimeTime was officially over.“

His was a tear. It usually requires surgery. I tore the same thing, (plantar plate) located at the ball joint right before my big toe. Had surgery and took about 3.5 months to fully recover. Was VERY painful before I got it fixed. No issues afterwards. This was 10 years or so ago.

Sounds like we should trade for Deshaun just in case.

Yea they’re not going to add any WR’s because Mahomes is having offseason surgery. That makes a ton of sense!

Watkins said he wants to come back. Veach said, if they can figure something they’ll love to have him back. Don’t expect much change @ WR.

Maybe Robinson will be gone and we sign cheap veteran like Fitz or Green

His 3 worst injuries - the toe, the knee, and the blackout - were all because he was being used in the running game. Nothing to do with protection at all.

Not saying we shouldn't invest in better protection but that's only part of the battle.

Watkins should be gone today.

And just because they're talking like that doesn't mean they won't do anything.

Lol so Veach says some typical GM speak bs and we aren’t going to add a WR at all now?

JFC you’re an idiot.

Even if they were to keep Sammy, they still will draft a WR. This team is going to be drafting a WR every other year at the very least, as they should.
