Not sure why KCC behaves the way he does. He's a troll.

He's somehow defensively become a rock for this team over the last month. Has also become one of the best rebounders in the country. It's been a remarkable shift for somebody who couldn't stay on the floor in the first 2+ months of the season.

I'm going to try and explain this calmly, although there is an equal chance of you just being a Mizzou troll as anything.

The reason why I said you were a piece of shit fan, and why others agree with me, is because you have watched four years of outstanding basketball played by outstanding players under the direction of an outstanding coach, and yet...

Your only focus has been to blast Perry Ellis.

Now, this is Chiefsplanet, so a certain amount of myopia and negativity bordering on maniacal obsession is expected.

The difference in this case, however, is you are talking about college athletics. And that is the heart of it.

Perry Ellis chose Kansas. He wasn't drafted in the first round like Eric Fisher. He didn't sign for the biggest money like a free agent.

He chose Kansas. He is a student, representing the university, at least SOME OF US who actually attended that university, and has done it with impeccable class and honor.

Jamari Traylor isn't the best basketball player to don the Kansas jersey. The team will likely become more talented once his minutes are being taken by one of the three five star front court recruits we'll have next year (assuming Diallo stays).

But to ever openly lament that he is still at KU, to ever openly campaign for his exit from the program, simply because you don't think he is productive enough, is a piece of shit fan thing to do.

There is only one good reason to ever openly - nay, privately as well - long for a college player to leave the program. That reason is if they are poorly representing the university.

You wanted Naadir Tharpe gone? I did, too. It was an embarrassment to the program. Now, he was an embarrassment BEFORE the pictures came out (due to his play), but you don't root against him. You don't want him gone. You want him to develop, to improve. Once the pictures came out, it was a very different conversation and his departure from the program was necessary.

To say you can't wait until you don't have to watch Perry Ellis anymore is a piece of shit fan statement. While these kids are gods of Lawrence off the court, and yes, they are given everything, they also give a tremendous amount back. For forty minutes twice a week, they are the face of the university, of the state, of the alumni, and there is a respect that must be paid for that.

That respect is different than a pro-athlete. It just is. There is a fine line between bitching about their play (okay), bitching about their playing time (okay but probably stupid - Self knows better, but still... it's okay) and lamenting their presence on the team (not okay).

I don't know what else to say, except that college fans have to understand that difference. They have to know that this is the only sport where fans can say "We" in referring to the team and the players don't bristle. Because, unlike the Chiefs or Royals, this truly is a "we." We paved the way. We were students, too. Our tuitions helped build facilities and classrooms they use. Our donations pay scholarships.

By being a part of the "we," we are imbued with a greater responsibility of class and respect toward the players. Demand excellence. Second-guess the coach. Bitch about bad play. All fine.

Do not ever talk about how you can't wait for a player to be gone. It's just over the line.

You don't root for Kansas, KC Connection. You root against this Kansas team in favor of an imaginary one in your head.

Or you root for Missouri.

Either way, your bile has stunk up this board for months, years. You are actively disappointed when Perry Ellis - an EXEMPLARY JAYHAWK - does anything to disprove your theory that he is a net loss contributor, a worthless player, a bum, a liability.

You root against Perry Ellis.

Therefore, you root against Kansas.

Therefore, you root against all of us.

So...

**** you.

But there's still hope for you. Just as there is hope for Perry Ellis playing tough D in the post. We have some time left this season before one of the greatest Jayhawks of all time is gone forever. You can change.

Be a better you, KC Connection. You have so much potential. Don't be soft.

Sorry, but it doesn't make me a piece of shit KU fan to not like watching Perry Ellis play basketball. Commenting on the strengths and weaknesses of players is part of being a fan at any level of sport (and yes, that includes major college athletics). We've all done it all season for every single player on this team. It isn't my fault that you can't handle that exercise in his case (apparently to the point that you can't help yourself from hurling insults in my general direction at any opportunity).

Quote:

I don't like watching players who are soft and incapable of playing two-way basketball. And I will always enjoy when I no longer have to. That neither makes me a bad fan or a bad person. I bear no ill will to Perry. He seems like a great guy. And I hope he has a long successful career playing basketball (which he is totally capable of). But when he's gone, I'll be more than fine with it.

I shouldn't have to point out that this reasoning makes no sense. It's fine to criticize a college athlete's play and playing time but it's not fine to lament their presence in the lineup and wish that a better option would replace them? There is no real tangible difference between the two.

Root against Perry Ellis? I've never done anything of the sort. I've been hoping he would find the form and intensity he showed last February during conference season before he got hurt. Now it seems obvious that that stretch was the exception rather than the norm, but it doesn't stop me from holding out that little bit of hope for him (and us). If we have any chance at winning another National Championship this year, it's going to require him showing at least a little bit of toughness and not wilting like the last two seasons.

Good, I hope you got that all out of your system and you won't have to resort to any more personal attacks. Seemed like the Perry frustration had been building up for quite a while.

Oh, it's no real problem. I just won't bother watching the whole thing now. Not going to subject myself to two hours of Doug Gottlieb and Seth Davis analysis.

Pretty good article from Seth Davis.

Behind Enemy Lines II. Big East, Big 12 and Pac-12 coaches scout conference foes with brutal honesty.

Here's what was said about KU: KCC won't like the Perry Ellis part lol

Kansas (23–4, 12–3): "They have two small guards playing together, which can be good and bad. You can get them in mismatches. Sometimes I think they overpenetrate too much. They're going to high-low you to death. They don't even try to hide it. [Senior forward] Perry Ellis can be up and down, but when he's playing well they're unstoppable. I think [junior guard Wayne] Selden disappears sometimes. He has one of the best bodies you'll see on a two-guard, but he's not a physical guy. He's a jump shooter with a great body. I don't think he has that dog in him. Their weakness is low-post scoring at times. So they're even more dependent on making threes and scoring in transition than usual. Their high-low offense has always been dictated by playing inside-out. Now they're playing outside-in. [Junior forward Landen] Lucas has really been a difference-maker for them defensively. You've got to try to make Ellis go left. He loves to drive left and then spin back to his right. He can take too many jump shots at times. When Ellis goes out, you can score at will on them inside. Ellis is very valuable defensively because he's so smart. When we run our stuff, he's there before our guys get there. [Junior guard Frank] Mason is a warrior and [sophomore guard Devonte'] Graham just loves to play. He plays happy, he plays with energy. Selden is a weak point defensively. If Selden has to chase somebody, he can't do it. If you can get someone who can move without the ball, he has trouble."

I actually think that coach is at least right about Perry being a smart defender who is well prepared. You could plainly see that just the other night against Baylor. It certainly isn't for a lack of trying that he's a poor one on the whole. It's not like it's a Wayne Selden situation where he floats around for most of the games.
