Actually Cassel is the one that has been getting the benefit of the doubt, he just needs better players around him.
In the games Brodie Croyle has played, I have never seen him make some of the stupid throws and fumbles that Cassel has made.

If you go back to the game Tom Brady got taken out by Pollard, the Partriots reciprocated on Brodie. He suffered the same kind of tackle and injury that took out Tony Romo this year. The tackler wrapped up the QBs back arm, so he can't break his fall, then drives his shoulder into the ground.

The second major injury of Brodie, was a tackle similar to the one that took Vick out this year. Sandwiched in the middle by two tacklers.

I think the guy has had time to mature, get stronger and gain some wisdom. I am darned excited about seeing him play. He will probably make some mistakes, due to lack of play, but I doubt his misses any wide open receivers by 5 yards.

Yeah, I think they've just conceded to the fact that they are going to lose, and are game planning as such.

If Cassel doesn't play -

"The doctor on NFLN said he should be able to play. Cassel is a pussy"

If Cassel plays but plays poorly -

"Cassle should have known he couldn't play so soon. He is selfish and killing the team"

If Cassel plays well -

"Well, the Chargers are really banged up, so we got away with it. However, he could have really hurt the team, plus he might have re-aggravated the injury and hurt the team by missing more time"

Look at the bright side. If Cassel is out for at least a couple games, this will give them a chance to truly evaluate Brodie when the real bullets are flying. If he does well and avoids injury, he will continue to be a back and we can feel confident about it. If OTOH, he stinks it up, the Chiefs know that they need to sign another QB to take that spot.

If the truth were to be known, I bet they are glad as well, seriously. Due to the contract, they have had to work with Cassel, and they have done pretty darn well with it.
Weis will have a QB on the field that has the talent, and has done something besides set on the bench as a backup.

From Wikipedia on Croyle:

Undaunted, he fully recovered from the injury in 2005 and started all 12 games as a senior; completing 202 of 339 passes for 2,499 yards with 14 touchdowns and four interceptions and one rushing touchdown. Croyle led the Crimson Tide to a #8 national ranking, a 10–2 record, and a 13–10 victory over Texas Tech in the Cotton Bowl Classic, where he shared the game's Most Valuable Player honors with teammate DeMeco Ryans.[1][9][10][11][12] In his final season at Alabama, Croyle attempted a then-school-record 190 passes without an interception and a finalist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award as the nation’s most outstanding senior quarterback.[1] He became the first Alabama quarterback to start every game in a season since 1996.[12]

His 2,499 passing yards in 2005 were the highest single-season total in Alabama's school history. His total 202 completions and 339 passing attempts rank as the second-best seasonal marks in school annals.[1] His 2,311 yards of total offense were the third-best seasonal mark in the history of the school, and his 1.18 interception percentage was the lowest single-season mark in school history as well.

Haley wanted him resigned for a reason, Haley knows that he is a player.
