Me and neighborhood safety

The picture below is my house with a dot and a curve. The road is 30 mph and the curve is clearly not a 30 mph curve.

I have a radar gun and often sit on the curve and gun cars. Most are good. Some are not.

A guy stopped today and told me not to radar him. Was an ass about it. Said he was gong to take the curve at 30 because it was the speed limit. Had a discussion. I was as nice as I could and asked him to just be slower when he was driving through. He was still an ass. Had another resident claim it was harassment

Am I wrong to do this? We have 20 kids in the lots visible and more will be on the way. All lots have houses now.

To add humor-I could be this woman
http://jalopnik.com/this-lady-who-us...hon-1795891135

I am going to the city to talk about options.

Had to make some responses. CP never fails.

Quote:
Love your concern and looking out for the kids.

We had a similar guy in my neighborhood a few years ago. Dude stood on a corner and wrote down license plates for everyone who didn't stop at a stop sign or sped. Ultimately it accomplished nothing except pissed off neighbors
Havent got that far yet. Hope not to.

Quote:
What are you accomplishing? Maybe you should buy one of those radar signs that show the driver their speed. At least then the driver would have feedback. As it is you are sitting there radaring people doing absolutely nothing
There is one in the city. We will get it for a week next year when construction is finished.
Quote:
Do the neighborhood kids hang out around the curve?
Kids everywhere!!!
It is a blind corner.

Quote:
If I knew where to get a radar gun I would totally do this.
https://www.amazon.com/Bushnell-1019...nell+radar+gun

Quote:
I would make a sign as large as you can get away with that says:

"Drive Like Your Kids Live Here"
Those are on the way. Many for our neighbors.

Your lawn sucks. Looks like ****ing dirt.
Stupid grass in Minnesota. That is from early April. It did not want to green up until I fertilized. It was not even a year old at that point.

End point. Ask the city to put in another stop sign at the corner to the top of the map and then make the curve 20 mph and post a sign. It does not hurt to ask.

Talk to your councilman/councilwoman about this issue
Then, talk to the traffic safety engineer

IF a driver is within the posted speed limit then they are fine. IF you are on your own property then you do have the right to do this, BUT he also as the right to tell where to stick you're radar gun. DO NOT stand on someone else's property or in the public right-of-way and do this.

Personally I'd be annoyed if my neighbor was doing this.

By the way, throwing a blowup doll into the street as someone rounds the curve is not a good idea, although I have thought of that in front of the speedway in front of my house

How is that in any way a blind corner? Your house sits back from the corner, there are zero trees to block anyone's view, and the speed limit is still only 30 MPH. There isn't a driver in the world, with the exception of Stevie Wonder, who can't see around that corner.

Stop being an insufferable douchebag and mind your own ****ing business.

Get a written statement from the engineer that the corner is unsafe and then take that to your city rep or city council meeting and show them that you have proof that it's a liability to the city if someone gets hurt and all of your neighbors know about it.

Forget the City Council. They will just laugh at you.

What are they supposed to do? Put up a sign around every residential corner? Every DB that lives on a corner will want a advisory speed sign around their house because of you.

Make better use of your summer time and leave your neighbors the hell alone.

This.

Besides, what does tracking their speed even do? You can't do anything about it. I guess you could complain to the police and ask them to send out a traffic monitor to maybe write some tickets or something...

That kind of crap gets you labeled as the neighborhood douche. You're not accomplishing anything except making people hate you. Some are probably taking that corner faster now, just to piss you off. You're probably making things worse...
