Perspective

The first thread I ever started was after the Patriots game and had the same title. This loss is infinitely more painful and I feel physically ill, but:

1/ We still control our own destiny.
2/ The entire mood on CP would be different had we gotten one simple stop on that last drive.
3/ We almost lost to the Ravens last week and pulled that out of nowhere. I viewed that as a gutsy win and still do. My guess is many of you now view that as a fluke-ish win simply because we lost by 1pt today.
4/ We still have Mahomes and he's still 23 and I'd rather be the Chiefs than any other team in the AFC heading into the playoffs.
5/ I won't let our history in prior years overwhelm me right now. I think things are different and the future can prove me wrong in the playoffs.
6/ We're 11-3. Pretty sure no one expected us to be here at this point in the season.
7/ Mahomes.

Water is wet and this defense is what we thought it was. I want to punch all the people in the face who were happy we didn't give up a draft pick or two to pick up some defensive help, and I'm not sure why Berry wasn't on the field the entire second half (maybe the telecast had an explanation?). But I'm not going to melt down as if this were a playoff game that completely destroyed any hope of our winning a Super Bowl this season.

I still believe this team is different.

It's true. As soon as the Chiefs have momentum and hit a national spotlight game... flop.
I thought we were winning the Super Bowl this season... it has felt magical at times. The other times have felt like the same ol Because Chiefs.
Takes a better defense to win the Super Bowl. Last night was a prelude to the playoffs.

I certainly understand the frustration, and I get that it's cumulative. But did anyone really think that the Chiefs would be 11-3 at this point in Mahome's first season as a starter?

People seem to be gnashing teeth that "we won't get to the Superbowl this year." That seems a little nuts to me.

Most of you sound like whiny little girls. I get that the outcome sucked. I get that it's not the first time we've been gut punched.

But everything we want is still there for the taking. Just need to win the next one, which is fairly likely. Even if that doesn't happen, there's a solid chance the Chargers lose another.

Berry's back and will be a boost. Watkins will return soon, along with hopefully LDT and Erving. Hopefully Fuller won't be out long.

It's also nuts to proclaim no shot at the Super Bowl. The only team that can really be argued to have a better shot is the team that trailed us 28-14 with a few minutes remaining last night. KC has a great shot to reach and/or win the SB.

The Baltimore win proves that our offense does magical things in the 4th quarter when Andy Reid lets them attack. We saw it in NE, Denver, Baltimore. Bc there's nothing for Reid to manage - we have to aggressively score, we have to aggressively make stops. Simple.

Our offense looks sluggish when Reid chooses to protect the lead. We let SD, Pitt catch up to a huge lead early in the season. We were frustratingly inefficient on offense in the 2nd half vs. Jax, Denver (game 2), SF.

Considering the "protect the lead" ineffectiveness has affected us all year, I'm not convinced whatsoever that Reid fixed the problems that led to 2 playoff losses that were literally historically embarrassing.

With this defense, they've got two chances

Bob Sutton is still employed as DC so the primary problem has not been fixed.

It's a 2-way street. Historically bad D (which I think has some to do with situational playcalling too). But it also doesn't change that an offense that dominates the first half has CONSISTENTLY looked totally off in the second half when they're protecting the lead.

We're not going to fix Bob this season. Lost cause. But we can get our offense to stay aggressive and not put the game in our Defense's hands. That is actually fixable if Reid gets out of his own damn way.
