A new stadium downtown is not going to attract 25-30 thousand fans per game but it will be a logistical nightmare for traffic.

Meh, Sprint/TMobile Center is ~18k and it does okay downtown, and from my experience they put no effort at all into traffic control.

If they put even a little effort into managing foot traffic and car traffic, it wouldn't be bad at all. Plenty of other cities do it. I've always gotten out of Chase Field in downtown Phoenix far faster than Kauffman Stadium, for example.

Only spot downtown that would have been good for a skyline view is where the Kauffman Center is.

I can get out of the Busch Stadium lots quicker than the Sports Complex.

Is the KC Star building still around? Put it there, facing north. A bunch of stuff has developed south of the loop and just funnel people to 71 and the loop afterwards.
