Best case is easily they agree to a fair deal and he keeps being the Chris Jones we've always seen on the field for the next 4 years.

Aaron Donald, a HOF talent, that has been healthy almost his entire career had just come off one of his best seasons (when Rams won Super Bowl). He was 30. The next year (last season) he fell off a cliff and struggled with injuries, something that hadn’t been an issue before. And this, after the Rams had handed him a ridiculous contract to get him to stay.

Chris Jones is 29. He has one year left on his current contract. He will be 30 when he starts his next big contract. The Chiefs have supposedly offered him a 2 year extension onto the end of his current deal. If the Chiefs were to give him a new ‘long-term’ deal like he supposedly wants (4-5 years) for big money, there’s no way the Chiefs wouldn’t end up regretting that contract in a couple years. No way in the world he will play like a Top 5 DT for another 5 years. To think otherwise, is foolish.

There’s no indication from that article he’s looking for a new 4-5yr deal. If the article is accurate he’s looking for a 2y extension added onto the end of this season.

Maybe Andy Reid can still win Super Bowls without tricking the players into believing in that Family stuff, but he has needed that Family stuff so far.

If the Chiefs go a few Mahomes years before winning another Super Bowl, the dopes around here will blame Chris Jones for asking for more money and getting owned in the negotiation?
Can you shut the **** up?

This is so dumb. Kelce and Mahomes take clearly below market deals but suddenly the “Family” vibe of the team will be ruined because the Chiefs only offered CJ to be the second highest paid player at his position behind the best defensive player in the history of the NFL.

You’re too stupid for words in repeating this same nonsense.

Um, this isn't realy the case.

Aaron Donald doesn't have an injury history, and last season he wasn't plagued by injuries; he suffered a high ankle sprain and ultimately was sidelined for the rest of the season. But ankle sprains aren't long-term nagging type injuries and he should be fine now.

And last season LAR only returned 5 starters from that SB winning defense, and basically AD was out there on the DL alone when he was playing. That's why his production went down, not because of some pseudo-magical "turning 30" issue. Opposing teams simply double- or triple-teamed AD, and went 1v1 on the rookie DEs.

What good does being out of shape and dogging it do? I'm sure he wants the HOF and dogging it while out of shape doesn't get him a new contract. It's not like he's going after his first big contract and has youth on his side.

I’m definitely on the side of why pay him that much on an extension if we really don’t have to.

Do you have a serious point to make here, dillhole9?

No camp, no preseason, no chemistry with all the new faces... but yeah he's just gonna don his cape, flip the switch and come out and immediately start terrorizing fools in week 8 or whatever lol

I think the 2 year extension on the end of his current contract is what the Chiefs want, not him. I mean, this is the same guy that said he was ‘Chief for life’, ‘wouldn’t play for another team’ and wanted to ‘retire a Chief’.

You don’t think it’s reasonable he would want a long term contract from the Chiefs if all those things were said by him? Why would he only want a 2 year extension if that were the case? It’s not like he’s gonna have a bigger opportunity at the end of those 2 years to land another big FA contract as a 32 year old DT.

A 2 year deal (extension) makes no sense for Chris and his agents. It does, however, make a lot of sense for the Chiefs . . . . .

Go look at the track record of modern DT’s (Donald, Atkins, Cox, Sapp, etc.) and how they performed after their age 30 season and then get back to me.

Father time is undefeated. Especially when it comes to DT’s in the NFL.

I mean, obviously no one can see the future but Aaron Donald started to erode at 30 & he's the biggest freak of them all. It's typically what we see with all these linemen speaking broadly. Sure it's "possible" he could be a unicorn but betting on that is a fool's errand.

They should have traded him before the draft & avoided this mess all together when there was time to replace his production.

The Rams are in cap hell in part b/c of that deal but they did get a Super Bowl. The Chiefs are & should be playing the long game relative to the cap given the potential of Mahomes/Reid to pile them up. Exhibiting discipline is the right move IMO.

We are having a discussion based on the article which was likely leaked by the CJ side. We can have any number of other discussions based on any other million permutations of AAV, years, guaranteed money, options, etc.
